Wait. Ryan Theriot has an OPS+ of 95. Brendan Ryan 91.

Fukudome has an OPS+ of 117. Colby Rasmus 93.

I forgot that defense doesn't matter. My bad.

It better matter a ton for Rasmus to be better than Fukudome. Also Aramis Ramirez gets no mention? I guess he isn't very good either?

Probably just wasn't mentioned because of the DL time this year.

Well he has around 200 at bats. Brendan Ryan has around, what 250?

Simply wrong. Brendan Ryan, Yadier Molina, and Colby Rasmus have all been nearly if not as valuable as any cub position player besides Derrek Lee this year.

Which is to say what? Not that valuable? Rasmus and Ryan are below league average OPS+ guys who arent even every day players. (though not their fault.)

While Ludwick isn't a 35 home run player (and I don't think anyone would try to convince you that he ever was) he plays passable defense and hits enough to be a serviceable starter.

That, to me, = bleh.

He's been injured?

And yes, Rasmus has been absolutely phenomenal defensively in the outfield- the same goes for BRyan at SS. Both are amongst the top 3 defenders at their position in all of MLB.

regardless of whether that is "bleh" to you or not, that's still a lot more valuable than 2 of 3 of the cubs' outfielders this year and around half of their starting infielders for the majority of this year, and he's our worst starting OF'er now.

Great Fukudome is among the top hitters at his position in all of baseball. I would say the only two better have been Victorino and Kemp. That and he's a pretty good outfielder as well. I don't use the defensive metrics as no one really agrees upon which is the best one.

Come on Keener, join in the celebration. This is perhaps the best team ever built.

I know, and I cant believe all the Cubs fans here at this Cubs board, arent bowing down and kissing the ass of every last Redbird. How dare Cubs fans not give the BFIB, and the BTIB their respect. We all may be burned in hell if we dont give them their respect. Im thinking of changing my username to "Brendon Ryan Great White Hope" as the ultimate show of respect to their team and fans.

I mean my computer must be confused as hell today because its showing www.northsidebaseball.com as my url but maybe it is really www.gatewayredbirds.com. My computer wants me to join in the greatness of the BFIB and BTIB. Wait I cant post at www.gatewayredbirds.com so I dont know what the hell is going on with my computer today

Yep, the '27 Yankees and some of those '30's ear Philadelphia A's teams pale in comparison.

The only solace I take is maybe this offseason we will try to get more mustaches and skinheads.

So, you have a below average hitter for a corner OF, but the point you're trying to make is that "he's better than two of your OF's"?

They could pass the greatest teams ever, the 00's Cubs. 1900s that is.

:banghead:

The point is that it's pretty ridiculous to say "well the cardinals are just lucky that their shitty players are playing so well" when our players aren't even playing over their heads, we just no longer have any absolute holes in our lineup like several cubs players. as someone else mentioned upthread, there's a lot of value in surrounding a couple of great players (pujols, holliday) with a whole lot of average players (ludwick, schumaker, lugo) and a couple slightly above average players (ryan, rasmus, derosa, molina).
