Valenzuela's Screwballs at Harrys Budcrew

Northside Baseball at Quakers

Galesburg Hand Sanitizers at Tootielicious

Since Raw and Lynx still aren't technically eliminated, that makes 4 matchups this week between teams with playoff aspirations.

Go Tim! (And me.)

my defense is failing us so far.

Lou finally is replacing Gregg as closer, so I have to scramble. I've picked up both Marmol and Guzman until we know who the new closer is. For now I have Marmol in my lineup and Guzman on my bench, subject to change once it is known who is taking over. I believe we said that a change in status, such as being benched, is a reason for making mid-week lineup changes, and it seems to me like a pitcher losing the closer job fits in with that.

My understanding has always been that you can't replace someone midweek simply because they suck.

Can't Gregg still get some relief appearances in non save opps.?

He can, but a position player can also get plate appearances without starting. Clearly a relief pitcher's potential for putting up points will be less when not in a closer's role. It's a question of interpretation on what constitutes the equivalent of benching for a relief pitcher. I'd think losing the closer job would qualify, but if Juan says otherwise I wouldn't object to leaving that RP position empty for the rest of the week. At least that would be preferable to getting more negative points from Gregg.

we've discussed this before, and sucking is not a reason for making a mid-week lineup change. obviously you can keep that RP open if you want, but i don't think you can replace gregg with someone else.

Sucking isn't a reason, but benching is. It's a matter of interpretation as to what constitures "benching" for a relief pitcher, and unless Juan says otherwise I'd interpret removing a relief pitcher from the closer role as the equivalent of "benching." If he says my interpretation is wrong I'll adjust accordingly and Juan can always adjust the scoring for any points a player may have accumulated while improperly in my lineup.

And if Lou changes his mind and leaves Gregg as closer I will have played Russian Roulette and lost.

I always thought it has to be injury only for position players and relievers.

Thats my opinion of the way the rule should read, and to make it more specific CBS has to recognize the injury with their little "red cross" sign just to avoid any grey areas.

Hmm....I think I detect a slight bias on the part of Raisin :-k

Go Quakers!

My offense has been miserable this week. 1-26 today, with a total of 1.75 points.

Thank goodness my pitching rocks.

OK, so I pretty much need to win out to get in. Doesn't look like Manginos are beating the Rays, which means I can't catch them. So for me to make the playoffs, I have to win out and have GHS and NCCubs lose out. If not, I can still get in by winning out and having GHS and NCCubs lose 2 of 3 or by going 2-1 and having GHS and NCCubs both lose all 3. In either scenario, I would need to outscore NCCubs by 140 and GHS by 216. Hopefully, I can make up a ton of the points by beating NCCubs badly this week. GHS and I are running neck and neck in points this week so I need to blow up or have his guys throw up some 9 ERs in 1.1 IP to narrow the gap.

If I make it in, all of a sudden, I'm a dangerous team with Peavy coming back to team with Wainwright to give me a solid rotation.

After this week, if I win one of two, I'll be in. If I lose the next two to Raw and NCcubs and both NC and Abuck go 2-0, it'll come down to points as far as who the final team is.

raw, i beat you head to head both times. for you to get in over me you'd have to finish with a better record...you'd have to finish 3-0 and me 0-3 for you to pass me.

I'd much rather win a playoff spot outright, but the way my players (especially my pitchers) have quit on me the last couple of weeks it wouldn't surprise me at all if it came down to points.

i don't think robert can promote norris to gain a start this week. he's being brought up to replace the DL'ed cook, who was not going to start again this week. as we've discussed before, you can't use your minor league system as an extended bench.

I'm pretty sure you can promote someone to get one of your seven starts
