I'm all for Brenly to become the new manager.

It's amazing how many people want this.

So why do you think this would be a bad thing? Please give some legit reasons

Plenty have been given.

Yeah, it's really been beaten into the ground ad nauseum.

I'd bet serious money that if Hollandsworth kept up the TV stuff and replaced Bob in the booth people would be clamoring for Todd after a couple crappy season under Brenly.

There has not been one legitimate reason in this entire thread why Bob Brenly shouldn't be seriously considered as the next Cubs manager.

There has (overly reliant on the idea of "small ball" baseball, rode an amazing 1-2 of Johnson-Schilling to his WS ring).

What's the reasoning for wanting Brenly manging besides the WS win (whoopety-crap, Lou has one, too, and look how well that's working out) and that he complains in the booth when the Cubs lose?

Bob will bring the FIRE! and INTENSITY!

I'm rooting for Paul DePodesta to be the next GM. He's the one that is responsible for what is going on in LA right now.

Logan White and Kim Ng say hello.

Logan White is the best GM prospect and if they were to replace Hendry, he would be the only one on my list.

Chris Antonetti belongs on the list too... but I'd prefer White.

Antonetti will replace Shapiro when Shapiro gets promoted in about 1-2 years.

That's pretty obvious from the way he turned down the Cards job. But he did interview, so there is a slight chance he was willing to be stolen away.

I think the biggest reason I wouldn't want Lou gone would be that the replacement would more than likely be either Brenly or Sandberg, and I'd much prefer Lou to either.

I just can't see why Sandberg won't be it. they denied him the job the first time around because he need some coaching experience and the Cubs gave him that opportunity. It looks like they are grooming him for something.

It seems like they've been grooming Sandberg to take over as manager when Lou's gone. Lou's contract expires after 2010, right? The plan was probably to have Sandberg take over after that.

If Lou is fired after this season (or during it), we'll see if they think he's ready now. I'm guessing they'll consider all applicants, but Sandberg would have the inside track.

Ryno was my favorite player growing up... and I think he'd make an excellent bench coach. But I don't want him to manage the team. He's completely backwards.

To me it seems they are grooming Alan Trammell to be the next manager, and not Ryne Sandberg.

Agreed. I don't see anyway that Trammell isn't the next manager whether Lou is gone after this year or the next.

If I had to guess, I'd say Tramell's likely the successor. Perhaps Trammel as manager with Ryno taking Trammel's current position.

Charlie Donovan and Lou Brown.
I dunno; a pinup of Ricketts in the clubhouse just wouldn't be the same.

On the other hand, Wild Thing would have to be an improvement at closer.

We could use a spiritual player on good terms with a deity as well. Think Cerrano is available to sacrifice some goats?

The ONLY way I see it not being Alan Trammell is if a new GM comes into play and he would want his own manager. Other then that, I see Lou retiring and the Cubs promoting Trammell to manager.

Now the question I have is this: if Piniella does retire (let's face it, Lou will not be fired Hendry will allow him to retire), will Rothschild stay with the Cubs or would he pursue another job? If Rothschild does leave for another opportunity then a new pc will be needed.

Larry was really more Hendry's choice than Lou's (he was pitching coach going back to shen Don Baylor was manager). Accordingly, as long as Hendry is around I'm not sure if Lou's leaving would cause Larry to leave.

While this will never happen, but what would the reactions be if somehow Larussa was brought on as the manager in 2010.

I wouldn't mind, especially if Dave Duncan came also.

Hendry was once a top notch farm director too. It's questionable how well the two skills translate.

I would love to see that happen if for nothing else to see the creepy Cardinal fan go off the deep end and cry about losing TLR. That would be epic.
