This team is really at a crossroads right about now. They can go the 2004 rout and completely roll over or they can come to life and start beating the crap out of bad teams, which they'll be facing a lot of after this series.

IIRC, the downfall of the 2004 team was not being able to beat bad teams.

I remember a very unpleasant series against Montreal in early September of 2004 that pissed me right the [expletive] off.

I think I remember what you're talking about, and for some reason, the name Termell Sledge jumps out.

That's so crazy you mention that series. I was just thinking back to that series the other day.

I remember Lee blasting a home run in the 1st, then Wood giving up like 8 ER's against the Expos. We ended up losing that series. :banghead:

The Cubs arent exactly a bad team, they're just not good enough to outscore their opponents unless they're playing really bad teams.

That about sums it up. They are an extremely mediocre team who takes advantage of the teams below them and gets beat up by the teams above them.

Haven't they only won 2 series' against teams with winning records this season? Mediocrity at its finest right there

Out of curioisty, how many series have the Phillies won against teams with winning records?

No idea cause i'm not a Phillies fan and i could care less to try to look it up right now

they have 8 series wins vs. Teams .500 or better.

Obviously, your're going to lose more games vs. good teams than you would vs. bad teams, or else they wouldnt be good teams. However, the fact that they're completely helpless vs. over .500 teams is not a good sign.

Maybe.

How many of the remaining games are against teams above .500?

Not alot, but then again, the Cardinals dont have a lot either. Im focusing on the Wild Card race. In the past month or so, they Cardinals have been transformed from a very lucky team to a very good team.

What year was it when we were facing the Mets and they hit 2 grand slams in 2 innings? and then another vs. the Mets when then closer Dempster had something like a 6 or 7 run lead in the 9th and it slipped away like nothing? Bother were between 2004-2006

I want to say that game where the Mets scored like 5 in the 9th was actually 2007. That was one hell of a painful loss, though. We were cruising right along, then couldn't do anything right in the 9th. Santo just about keeled over in the booth.

I don't know about the 2 grand slam game, though. I will forever remember the game that LaTroy blew in New York in 2004, though. One of those games where I'll never forget where I was when the season died. After that game I knew we didn't have a chance.

The 2 grand slam game was 2006. Sean Marshall started and hit a HR that game.

It's good to know that Cubs starting pitchers have to be extremely perfect in their starts cause the offense isn't going to bail them out.

The Cardinals and White Sox will absolutely play in the World Series. It's just been that type of season.

The one bright spot is: Bradley is absolutely crushing the ball as a LH hitter lately. Looks like he's found the groove he's promised us at the brake.

17 base runners and 3 runs? That's all Cubs there, Lou PO'ed at the wrong people, instead of jumping on the media, I wish he'd jump all over Soriano for his dumb-ass base running or Theriot for that matter or Marmol.

As I recall, that walk off was off the bat of a rookie shortstop who they said grew up idolizing Sammy Sosa. Im not quite sure what happened to that kid. I think his name was Reyes. Jose Reyes sounds about right.

Embedded quote constraint got me but, wasn't it someone named Victor Diaz? An OF who, ironically, was graduate of Chicago Vocational School (CVS).

Then I guess the Cardinals are doomed since they'll have to face your nightmare scenario of Jake Peavy in the World Series.

Nah... Peavy would be a nightmare only if facing the Cubs in the WS. Any other team has a shot
