Justin Bristow was pushed back 3 days:

Peoria Journal-Star"]Bristow was skipped, in part, because of a slight twinge he felt in his start Monday in Beloit.

“But the next day it was fine,” Pevey said. “He threw his side session and he was lights out with no pain. In Beloit, he was (throwing) 93-95 (mph) and bringing it. It’s just a precaution, so we’ll hold him until Tuesday.”

Michael Brenly update:

The good news for the Chiefs was that catcher Michael Brenly did not suffer another concussion when he was hit by a pitch in Friday’s game.

“Hopefully we can have him back (Sunday),” Pevey said. “He’s not concussed, it’s just a precautionary measure.”

...

Brenly’s injury was further proof the minor leagues are a little different than the higher levels.

With just two catchers on the roster, and emergency catcher David Macias playing left field Friday, Pevey — a former major-league catcher with the Montreal Expos — was forced into bullpen-catching duties.

Pevey said it’s been 14 or 15 years since he caught in the bullpen during a game.

Daytona News-Journal"]Did the teachers have a little fun with saying Daniel McDaniel?

"Whenever the year started, the new teacher would say 'Daniel McDaniel' and you'd always hear some chuckles. It was good. No one ever forgot who I was, and my mom always told me growing up that it's a great sports name if I ever made it big."

I think there would be a lot of interest among Cub fans if WGN were to televise the annual minor league game played at Wrigley. Let that be one of the days CSN televises the Cubs game.

Des Moines Register"]"I've never been to Wrigley, and I've wanted to go for a long time," Snyder said. "My wife has been there many times. She's a Bleacher Bum. She can't wait for me to go there."

"It's at a big-league park," Mathes said. "A well-known big-league park, obviously, with a lot of history. But my approach is going to be the same. I'm going to try and keep the ball down in the zone and hopefully give the team a chance to win."

Des Moines Register"]When he was playing Class A baseball for Peoria in 2007, Matt Camp had a chance to attend a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field. He declined.

"I wanted the first time to be when I played there," Camp said. "Granted, I was thinking maybe for the Chicago Cubs."

"It's going to be a great experience," Camp said. "Playing on a field you may someday call home will be neat."

...

Darwin Barney has been to Wrigley as a spectator.

"I was 14 or 15," said Barney, an Oregon native. "My dad, my brothers and I took a summer trip and we went to a couple of places. Wrigley was one of them. But I haven't been on the field yet."

...

"I always wanted the first time to be as a player," Craig said.

"Everyone wants to be there," Craig said. "I'm not saying that's the motivation you need. Maybe a little carrot would be a good way of putting it. I'm excited about it."

Josh Vitters was back in Daytona's lineup; he doubled and scored in his first and only at bat but then was pulled 2 innings later for a defensive replacement. :?

"Buddy Ball" ( Daytona manager Buddy Bailey) is soooooooooo borrrrrrrrrring. He went from a major league bench coach, to AAA manager,to AA manager,to adv A manager. He's a loser and will never climb the ranks to the Bigs. His only success is with the Venezuelan winter teams. I think he needs to move there permanently.

I definitely agree - I went to the first "Road to Wrigley" game a couple years ago and it was a great time (except for the torrential rain storm that came in the 9th inning). I would definitely watch it on TV. (The Zooperstars were hilarious, even for adults!)

Hopefully precautionary - maybe it was planned to just get him a couple innings???

Argh, Brett Jackson dropped an easy fly out, leading to one unearned run for Archer.

Archer was solid: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. The walks came in the first and second innings.

I definitely agree about the Zooperstars. I saw them last summer when the Southern League All-Star Game was played at Carolina. I think my favorite was Harry Canary's 7th inning stretch.

You mean 17th. :D

If he can get the average up to .275 or so in the future, he could be a nice prospect. A 20+ HR (left handed) guy at SS or even 2b is real nice. I guess I'd like to see him at a more age appropriate level, but overall I like the power potential.

Iowa game at Wrigley was entertaining. Good ovations for Hoffpauir and Scales. Clammy Sosa ate a batboy.

Those silly Zooperstars! What willlllllllll they do next???

Was the wind blowing out? Four home runs made me wonder. Thanks!

His BABIP is still a few ticks too low to make me think he'll continue his current batting average.

Frankly, I think he'll be fine. He's good decent patience and very good power, plus he's played three positions this season without much trouble defensively.

The wind was howling out, but it was also really really humid so it probably evens out just a bit. It was miserably hot.

Oh, and the HR that Brad Snyder hit was a freaking bomb - went onto sheffield.

I believe the minorleague splits think that based on his K/BB/HR/line-drive rate etc., that with normal luck Flaherty should be hitting around .290 with an OPS well into the .800's. Which is more the kind of average I'd expect for a guy who had 15-17 HR's and a K-rate below 20%. There may be reasons why his actual average is lower. But I think there's a fair chance that he'll get promoted next year and do fine.

I think it will be intersting to see how his HR-rate goes next year. Sometimes a guy his age gets stronger, better at HR', and further improves his HR rate. If so, he could potentially be a serious HR threat, enough to overbalance some weaknesses in other areas. But it's also true that sometimes a guy hits fewer HR's against better pitching, and if theother stuff stays about the same buthis HR's drop, we'll be really uninterested.

They'll be tough come playoff time, between the line-up, the SP, and the pen. That lineup is probably the most balanced I've seen this year in the MWL (Nate knows better than me though).

Thanks - good to hear about Snyder's HR. Wind or not, onto Sheffield is a smack!

Yeah, it was a shot. It would have been a long HR with or without the wind. The wind probably put it on Sheffield but that's about it.
