On Jay Jackson's demotion:

Knoxville News-Sentine"]Pitcher Jay Jackson, who represented the Smokies in the SL All-Star Game and was the winning pitcher for the North Division, was sent down to Class A Daytona last week by the Cubs for disciplinary reasons.

"Very simple," Fleita said in explaining the move. "Failure to comply with club policy."

Fleita wouldn't be more specific but he liked the way the 21-year-old from Greenville, S.C, responded to his punishment. Jackson pitched 52<0x2044>3 innings in a no-decision against Charlotte. The right-hander allowed an unearned run on four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

"What he's done since is the way you're supposed to do it," said Fleita, who hasn't ruled out Jackson's return to the team. But Fleita didn't indicate if that would be this season.

Bruce Miles"]--If you missed one of yesterday’s blogs, third-base prospect Josh Vitters has been out of Daytona’s games for about a week with a left-hand injury. Oneri tells me it’s not serious and that Vitters should be back in a couple days.

Today isn't the day for Vitters' return...

Third time through, Castro singles again and Soto hit a 2-run home run.

Castro is now 4/7 with a BB at AA.

I think someone forgot to tell this kid it's supposed to be tougher when you advance a level...

Austin Kirk is making his debut for Arizona tonight and in the first inning walked one and struck out 3.......

I'm very curious how long he's going to be at Arizona. Considering the promise of Boise made, I'm curious if it's a Boise cup of tea, or more.

I didn't think it was a promise:

The Cubs told the hard-throwing left-hander that he could be assigned to the organization's short-season Boise team before the end of the summer.

Either way, he'll get one game at the end of the season in Boise a la Ryan Acosta in 2007 (Boise's rehular season ends later than anyone else in the system).

Hak-Ju has two singles today.. Our Shortstops excite me. By my count we have at least four legit ones in DJ, Castro, Hak, and Flahery. Exciting

Darwin Barney is probably a Theriot-level player, as well.

Then there are Logan Watkins and Junior Lake, too.
