Raisin, (as you know I'm lazy) I have to be there for the upcoming series in Beloit. What's the rotation looking like for the series?

Bristow, Archer, Beliveau?

Hernandez ends up at 5.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K. Second time in three outings that he took a shutout into the 6th and didn't get out of the inning.

I've never been all that excited about Robert Hernandez and never rated him as high as most on NSBB, but this season has been a solid one considering he was off for a long time. He has had a low WHIP and a strikeout per inning. He's been solid versus RHH, but needs to improved vs. LHH (maybe develop a new pitch or refine one he isn't currently using?). It'll be interesting to see if he goes to instructionals this fall and how he does next season in Peoria or Daytona (I hope Peoria, again). I'm not sure he's on my Top 30 list this year, but he's got to be in my "Honorable Mention" category! :)

It is a nice fastball/changeup complement, but he should dominate Boise after the success he had at Peoria. I have no idea what to really think of him ... although I think he's probably a righty James Russell in some respects.

Sounds like he could use a slider or splitter to keep hitters off-balance. I hope he turns out better than James Russell who I thought might become a LOOGY, but doesn't even seem to be on that path anymore!

His change is impressive. And I agree that he should be doing well in Boise after 2 seasons at Peoria. He does struggle against lefties and the fly balls/HRs are an issue but his curve looked pretty good today (admittedly against short season competition).

I wish Hernandez would get to Daytona already (he was slated to start the season in Daytona before he sprained his ankle and missed the first 2.5 months of the season). I'm not sure what he's gaining right now in Boise.

Hopefully "confidence."

Part of me wonders, on Hernandez, if this is a case where he was suspended, and the Cubs just don't want to prioritize him/

As for Russell, the most disappointing thing for me is that late last year, the reports on the development of his breaking pitch were solid. Furthermore, he was also showing some improvement in AA last year before the demotion to Daytona. I really thought he could be solid as a starter this year based on those reports, but it hasn't been.

Tyler Colvin had a streak of 11 straight hits snapped in the bottom of the 5th. Today, he's 3/4 with 2 singles and his 9th HR of the year. The streak has gotten his batting average at Tennessee all the way up from .244 to .289.

And once again, Tyler with a late season surge to give some hope ...

Papelbon went instead. Not sure why...

My fault. Tomorrow is his turn to start and I should have just checked my rotation rather than go with what MiLB.com had.

-Is it me, or is Tyler Colvin the Alfonso Soriano of our farm system? It seems that since we drafted him, he'll go through these massive hot streaks, and then out of nowhere, he'll completely shut down.

-So when does Marquez Smith get the bump to Iowa? I think weve firgured out exactly what he is in AA, and its time to give him the push, especially considering his age and that the I Cubs dont seem to have an actual 3B.

-John Gaub belongs in the big leagues.

that is all.

That 11 straight hits tied the Southern League record:

MiLB.com[/url]"]"It is pretty amazing," Colvin admitted. "You go up there and you hit balls hard and you hope they fall. To do it 11 times and they all found holes, that's pretty fun."

"I was just going up there relaxed," Colvin said. "I wasn't trying to do too much. It really paid off and from now on, hopefully, all my at-bats will feel like that."

The 13th overall pick of the 2006 Draft started the streak Friday with a second-inning single to center field. That sparked a 5-for-5 night in a 5-4 victory at Mobile. On Saturday, he fell a triple shy of the cycle, then started Sunday's matinee 3-for-3 before lining to right field in the fifth and first base in the eighth.

"Hopefully, I'll just keep having at-bats like this, just consistent, hard contact," the Clemson University product said. "My last two at-bats tonight I hit line drives right at people, so I can't be upset about that. As long as I stick with what I'm doing, if they don't all fall, it's fine with me. It's fun to have a ride like that."

One way or the other, Tuesday will be Aaron Miles' last game for Iowa.

And none too soon! You think they can compete for the Pacific Coast League Championship with that kind of production from their second baseman?

O_O, you seen B. Jackson live yet?

Going to see him when the Chiefs return to Peoria; possibly next week depending on how my schedule pans out. I really want to see him, LeMahieu, and Archer.

Bristow

Archer/Cabrera

Shafer

Bibens-Dirkx

Beliveau goes to the bullpen with the addition of Antigua. He is our LH long guy now with Hatley as the RH long guy.

Bah, wish Beliveau would get a chance to regularly start.

I'm still not 100% sure what to think about Tony Thomas. On the one hand, his strikeouts are slightly down, his walks have increased noticeably, and he's hitting more HRs. On the other hand, his batting average and power numbers are not a whole lot different from last year. I have to keep reminding myself that he turned 23 less than a month ago and is still relatively young for AA. However, considering a number of us thought he had a really disappointing season last year, and he's putting up somewhat comparable numbers in AA this year, I'm not quite sure where he fits rankings-wise in this system.

His numbers are much much better out of the bullpen if you look at his starter/reliever splits and having chatted with him a bit I think he prefers it.
