I did not know zaun was available.

There were rumors a week or so ago that the Cubs were interested in him.

Zaun is a better offensive catcher but Koyie is better defensively. Hill throws out 41% of runners while Zaun throws out 26% and koyie's RF/9 is 8.39 while Zaun's is 6.53.

Koyie is a MUCH better defensive catcher while zaun is better offensively. If i had to choose between a good offensive backup or a good defensive backup I would take the better defensive one every time.

Zaun is much better offensively as well.

Zaun 2009 OPS: .748

Hill 2009 OPS: .604

I'm confused as to the intent of this post.

I was highlighting how much better Zaun is offensively than Koyie.

Oh, I get it now, the MUCH, and then the lack of much.

Yep. Re-reading the post, though, I should have left out "as well." It's kinda out of place there, I think.

1:35pm: MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo says pitchers Nick Hagadone and Justin Masterson are in the deal.

In reference to the Martinez deal. Hagadone was the Sox No. 3 prospect entering the season according to BA.

For some reason I kind of like Koyie Hill. I don't really have a problem with a bad hitting backup who makes the minimum and plays solid defense. It helps when your starter is production.

Is this Soto's new nickname?

a friend of mine (Red Sox fan) says that the Red Sox are actually looking to cut payroll some down the road, and that guys like Lowell and Varitek aren't long for the team post 2009

Sounds like Cleveland did REALLY well in getting two live arms for Victor Martinez.

I really like Hagadone but they should be able to pull off Buchholz if they're trading Victor Martinez.

Adrian Gonzalez back in the news.

1:55pm: From Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports: the Dodgers are making a run at Gonzalez and Bell (separately or together); they could send James Loney to San Diego in such a deal.

oh for the love of god!

if i see manny win another world series i will [expletive] puke!

If San Diego wanted Maybin and Miller for Bell, I can only imagine the number of great prospects the Padres will want from LA for Gonzalez and Bell.

the really scary part here is that they are engaged in talks for adrian...if they have the prospects to get him and they balk at the price then they could easily switch gears and grab halladay in the final few minutes

Anderson is having a pretty bad season this year and a lot of the shine is off.

Kershaw, Loney, Gordon, Martin, Lindblom, Dejesus, and Withrow?

He's still super young for his league though. I would imagine he still has a lot of trade value.

Would Kemp or Ethier be involved with Pierre available for the outfield?

Possibly. Add Kemp in and I think the Padres have to do it. Then spin off Peavy for prospects and your at least trying to rebuild.

I can't believe the Reds haven't sold off some of their guys yet.

Dusty's not ready to conceed. Really though who would they sell? I guess Rhodes.
