Len is so hesitant with his home run calls.

I don't mind that. He could be like Chip and think a popup is bound for Waveland.

The thing that bothered me the most about Chip was that every time the opponent led off with a hit it was automatically an "inauspicious start."

The discussion of Beuhrle vs Wood is interesting, intelligent, informative, and totally out of place in this game thread. I will enjoy reading the rest of it in the CUBS discussion forum later on.

 Is it really that big of deal to discuss this in a game thread? Not like there is alot of action going on in this game right now.

Generally speaking, no. In this instance, when it becomes a couple dozen posts back and forth, it does become tedious.

Meanwhile.... is the game getting more exciting for you ???

Yes this is more exciting, guess I shoulda bitched about the boringness a few innings ago huh. :D

Harry Carey was notorious for that as well.

I admit I was a fan of his "Swung on, belted!" home run call.

His first year or two he tried way too hard to be like Harry. Once he settled into a groove, he was actually quite tolerable. Chip and Steve were just a hair below Harry and Steve.

Joe Carter was a sin against baseball, though. Good gravy.

Yeah, the Joe Carter signing might've been worse than the Jeff Blauser signing...

i liked steve albert's "gets the bat on it" call. nothing builds the excitement more than a phrase that could describe a dribbler to the pitcher or a 480 foot bomb.
