Wow I thought Ronny was about to argue Kerry's 20k game was better than Buehrle's perfect game..

that would have been a great who you crappin nominee there.

why? I happen to think it was better. 20k games have been done 4 times by 3 pitchers, perfect games 18 times. Also the only hit in Woods game was a slow hit grounder just out of the reach of the SS. That bit of bad luck (where the ball was hit) was the only thing separating his game from a no hitter (or perfect game. I can't remember if he walked anyone)

No walks, and it is pretty clear to me that Kerry's performance was far more dominant. It took a ridiculous play just to save the shutout yesterday, whereas hardly anyone could even put the ball in play vs Kerry. Having said that, pitching a no hitter and a perfect game in your career is damn impressive. Props to Mark, but I still think Kerry's game was better.

plus the play by wise was not the only hard hit ball. burrell flied out to the track and there were a couple of line outs and hard ground balls that happened to go right at fielders. if you give up 22 batted balls in play and 0 go for hits, you've gotten extraordinarily lucky.

The 20 K game was the single most dominating single-game pitching performance in the history of baseball.

Depends on what you mean by "better"

More impressive achievement is how they were discussing. But I can't think of a definition that would make me think Kerry pitched a better game that day than Buehrle did yesterday

I think a 20K no-hitter (yes, to me it was a no-hitter) is more dominant than a perfect game. A perfect game has happened 18 times in MLB history, a 20K game only 3 or 4 times.

And didn't only 3 balls reach the Outfield in Wood's game?

An odd thing if you've ever watched a replay of the game is how few there are in the stands. It was less than half-full, 19000. Empty seats everywhere.

Kerry's curve that day was probably the sickest thing I've seen in my life.

Yep, especially the break on that last K to Bell (I think that's who it was).

I'm not typically the maudlin type, but remembering that game makes me more sad than anything. KW's injuries...damn, what could've been

The discussion of Beuhrle vs Wood is interesting, intelligent, informative, and totally out of place in this game thread. I will enjoy reading the rest of it in the CUBS discussion forum later on.
