So far just rumors and rumblings in the clubhouse about it.

10:56am: Ed Price of MLB FanHouse hears that LaRoche has been traded.

10:44am: Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the Pirates clubhouse is buzzing over the possiblity that Adam LaRoche will soon be traded. However, LaRoche is taking batting practice and is expected to play today.

Not that he's amazing or anything but he could hit the ball out of the ball park a little bit. Do the Pirates have anyone else who can do this now?

I wasn't aware of the Red Sox having a glaring need at 1B. Would the plan be to play Youk at 3rd and just give up on Lowell?
Posted

Lowell's not really doing that poorly. I think it'll become a 3 headed rotation of Lowell/Ortiz/LaRoche with Youkilis playing 3B when Lowell sits.

Jack Wilson probably woulda been a better idea.

Yeah, I don't understund this. The Red Sox don't need a 1B. Lowell is back and performing well and Youkilis is Youkilis. Only reason is like you said, to play him while Lowell sits. Seems like a bit much for such a minor role. Laroche isn't the greatest but he's decent enough to be a starter on several clubs. Unless they got him for dirt cheap I don't see the point, couldn't they have gotten someone a lot cheaper or promoted someone from within for such a menial task? Lars Anderson maybe?

Argenis Diaz & Hunter Strickland

I have no idea who these two guys are, or who's coming up.

SPECULATIVE UPDATE (1:07): People are asking me on Twitter if the return is Yeiper Castillo + PTBNL. I have no idea if that's actual the return, but I wouldn't be surprised if the return is something similar to that. Meanwhile, DK says that speculation (again unconfirmed) among scouts (same link as before to the PBC) is that Jack Wilson may be involved in the deal as well.

Look at my post. BA has Diaz as one of the more polished shortstops in the Sox system.

If Wilson is in the deal, shouldn't the Pirates be getting more though?

Absolutely.

Everyone seems to be quoting weei now, so I'm assuming it's Diaz & Strickland for LaRalleyKiller.

Garrett Jones just hit his 9th hr. He came up when Nyjer was traded. So, that's 9 in a couple of weeks.

Now that the Buccos are out a first baseman, maybe we could package up Jake Fox in a deal for Freddy Sanchez? Obviosuly it will take more than him, but its a start.

Sanchez is grossly overrated. He's not bad, I know he's been one of the better offensive 2B in the majors this year, but people treat him like he's a God amongst men. He's not. He hits for solid average, plays solid D, and has fluky power, IMO. It's not bad, but it's not going to put us over the top. He's not Chase Utley. With the way Fox is playing right now, if we trade him, we trade him in a package for something better than Freddy Sanchez, or we keep him and ride his bat while we still can. He's can do more for this lineup this year than Sanchez ever will, IMO

That plus he's not left handed, so that right there means he'll never play for us (sadly, I'm only half joking).

Sorry for going off topic

Jones = Chris Shelton, circa '06.

Hmmm, Shelton finished that season in the minors, I believe, and was really never heard from again.

But how they came up was different. Jones had a long minor league career. He was putting up some good numbers in Indy. Shelton wasn't in the minors that long.

It'll be interesting to see what Jones does in the long run.

Yeah, I don't think Jones is gonna end the year in the minors. I just read where Shelton was up with Seattle now, and it made me think of that explosion of power he had in a few games. Wasn't really comparing them as baseball players...just hot streaks. I'm surprised they have that much faith in Jones, though, with such a brief look at him in the bigs. What happens to the younger LaRoche when Alvarez eventually comes up? Possible move to first?

Steve Pearce is coming up, so I'm assuming Jones is going back to the outfield.

Our Basic Lineup until the next trade:

Cutch cf

Freddy 2b

Jones lf

Doumit c

Moss/Young rf

LaRoche 3b

Pearce 1b

Jack ss

Lastings Milledge is NOT coming up yet.

ETA:

Oh, what happens when Pedro gets here? Who knows? But, finally, we have that problem!

When Pedro gets there he'll be wearing a Phillies uni, so hardly a Pirates problem.

(And yes I do know who you were referencing.)

At least you didn't say a Cubs uniform, and suggest two players in the cubs system who'll never make the majors as trade possibilities.
