Oakland seems to have a surplus of middle infielders. The problem is, some may or may not be an upgrade over what we have, but as bad as what we have has been, at least as far as second base goes, may as well give it a look see.

-Adam Kennedy has been having a nice year with a .291/.353/.444 line, with 7 home runs. Hed be my top target, but if we cant get him we could settle for..

-Orlando Cabrera-hes Orlando Cabrera. Hes had some good years, and some bad years. This year, at .262/.299/.343, clearly not doing great, but still he could be worth a try.

-And then theres Mark Ellis and Bobby Crosby. Ellis has had some good years, and Beane has shown a lot of man love toward him in the past, but maybe hes ready to move him. Bobby Crosby is similar to Khalil Greene in that hes one of those guys whose shown great potential and you wonder if change of scenery could do him good.

-And then theres Nomar.

I dont think any of these guys would be too costly in terms of money, but as far as prospects go, you never know when it comes to Beane.

I know none of these guys are going to make or break a team, but without the finances for a Sanchez, Uggla, or Cantu, this could be our best non Ray Durham bet.

why do you want to bring in more terrible players? if we got any of those guys you'd be screaming for hendry to get rid of them after they have one bad game anyways.

Kennedy and Cabrera are not horrible players.

they're horrible hitters, yea. seriously, adam kennedy? unreal. you know a guy sucks when he's having an unexpectedly good season so far and he still has an ops under .800. before this season he had 4 straight seasons of an OPS of .724 or lower. he has a career ops of .721 and has never had a season with an ops over .795. yeah, he sucks.

and cabrera is even worse. he's at .643 this season and was at .705 last season. he's had an OPS of .742 or greater exactly one time in the last 7 seasons, and that was in 2004. the only thing he's good at is defense, and we could just use blanco if we wanted that.

they suck. you want to waste prospects on crap just because they play for a different team. like i said, you'd call for hendry's head the second one of them had a bad day. then you'd make a new thread asking for more crappy players.

Hey, WSR stop acquiring other teams crap.

Thanks.

I knew youd be just around the corner with such a comment.

Everyone wants to add players, we dont have the money at this time for a big name, and nobody wants to give up a lot of prospects. Therefore, the options are A. other teams crap B. our own crap.

If those are the only options, then B is by far the best option. No reason to give up prospects for guys who aren't very likely to be better than the guys we have.

When a GM makes a trade, it should be for a clear upgrade - or someone who can be a clear upgrade - at a position.

I think thyed be clear upgrades over ours. They're far from game changers, but both would be very nice in the 7 or 8 spot. .

i seriously feel like you haven't even bothered to check the stats. seriously, orlando cabrera has a .643 ops this season. .643

You're talking the unremarkable past success of an older player. It would be a waste of prospects. Nobody is going to argue that Fontenot to this point this season has been a huge letdown but he still has a good chance to show much improvement now that he's back at 2nd and if played in a strict platoon with Baker.

what, you're not impressed that cabrera had like a .780 OPS like 17 years ago?

If your one of those people who feel that every player should OPS .800 or above, then yes, but whe nit comes to number 8 hitters, Ill take an avg. in the .280s and an OPS in the .700s. Kennedy has done this his whole career aside from an off 2007 when he was injured. Cabrera has been on and off his whole career, maybe hes washed up, maybe its an off season for him. Even last year, he hit .281 with a .705 OPS, which is as god as you can expect from a number 8 hitter.

For the upteenth time, a platoon of Fontenot (career .798 OPS vs. righties) and Baker (career .898 OPS vs. lefties) is a decent bet to outproduce Kennedy or Cabrera or Ellis or any other mediocre infielder on the A's you want to throw away prospects to get.

OK, OK Im wrong. Just dont wine next time Fontenot or Baker strike out on 4 pitches in a crucial situation, because they're clearly better than any affordable option.

If the players you're trying to acquire aren't a clear upgrade over what you already have, why make the trade? What this team doesn't need is to go around throwing prospects at other teams for more garbage middle infielders that aren't a clear upgrade over what the Cubs already have.

You are so stubborn.

Yeah, because it would be much better to see a player who the Cubs pointlessly wasted trade parts on do the same thing.

umm, okay? there's a difference between complaining about players that we have and wanting to go out and get a worse player just because he's not on our team

like i said, if hendry got any of these crappy guys you're pining for, you'd turn on them before they even reach 10 PAs, guaranteed.

Adam Kennedy- fluke year

Orlando Cabrera- not going to get any better, won't post a better OPS than the current guys

Mark Ellis- probably the best of the bunch, and he isn't better than what we have

Bobby Crosby- will never be good

Beane will rape Hendry if we trade for any of these guys. End of discussion.
