Im surprised nobodys mentioning this, but why are we doing this, unless they think Sotos injury could be more serious than reported. Granted a Koyie Hill/Robinson or Clevenger catching tandum isnt steller, but if Geos out 2-3 weeks, I think we could survive with it, rather than deal for a guy who would be needed for only 2-3 weeks.

Lou said Geo could be out for as long as a month. And then the guy we acquire will be an improvement over Koyie or we could keep three catchers (if the new guy is good enough) and use one as a pinch hitter. The latter might limit our options too much, though.

I'm glad we finally decided to address our major problems by bringing in backup catchers. It's a nice change from the below average MI's.

Catcher is a need with Soto out until midway through August.

Micheal Barrett could be brought back rather cheaply.
I'm sure Big Z would welcome him back with open arms. Or maybe closed fists.

why bother we are sellers trade everyone save for a couple and build around Fuld and Theriot. Hopefully, they can lose enough games and get #1 draft pick and pick some jackass from LSU Virginia or Notre Dame.

Also fire Lou and promote sandberg.

But the question is, is there 1 out there that is good enough to be brought in for a month?

Who knows, but maybe Barrett is itching for a 3rd round, perhaps?

So they can survive without their best hitter for 2 months and no legit backup, but they can't survive without Soto for a month without going out and acquiring a "real backup" catcher?

The Cubs proved that you can throw anybody (Fontenot and Fox) in at 3B, but catching is different. Of course they didn't exactly replace ARam offensively though.

Maybe the catchers can be had for cheaper than a third base bat that would have been an upgrade. I don't know what their thinking is exactly.

It's also later in the season now and it's less likely the struggling bats will heat up - whereas when ARam went down, there was plenty of time for the slumping bats to heat up.

Kansas City is currently carrying 3 catchers now that John Buck is off the DL.

Miguel Olivo, John Buck and Brayan Pena.

Isn't he out of the MLB? As bad as he looked with the Padres, I'm not sure Fox wouldn't be better option. I think some posters are forgeting just how truly awful Barrett was.

I would probably take Buck over Olivo, but either would be interesting. Neither is particularly expensive.

Don't the Rangers have a surplus of catchers too?

Ramirez, Teagarden,. Saltalamacchia, IIRC

Ramirez is in the minors. Teagarden and Salty are both up and on potential, I'd love to take a look at Salty. He hasn't hit at all this year, though, so he's likely come cheap but may not be an upgrade either.

What a genuinely horrible idea. Anyone who builds a team around Sam Fuld should not only be fired, but also shot. Theriot is a keeper though.

I don't think I'd fire Lou just yet... but if we don't make the playoffs, then I'd probably part ways. I wouldn't mind Ryno.

And screw draft picks.

Sarcasm detection; poor.

There can't be people who seriously want Sandberg as manager, right?

Homeboy was my childhood hero, but no thanks.

Oh yes, I think there are people who want that. I don't get some fans who think being a former player for the Cubs means anything when it comes to managing the team

It's mostly because a lot of people fall in love with the romanticized idea of a former Cub hero leading them to the WS. Unfortunately, they don't realize, Sandberg would be a huge detriment to the team and wouldn't have much to do with any success that team may have.

The real question is what will Ricketts do? He's a Cub fan and very likely Sandberg was his hero too. If you're Tom Ricketts can you bring yourself to tell your childhood hero that you're not giving him the job he's openly wanted for at least 5 years? Hiring Sandberg would be a big splash type of move that new owners like to make.

I'd rather he hired Jody Davis. I don't know much about Davis as a manager but he has to be better than Sandberg.
