So when's Alby gonna fall off one?

Well, the crappy thing there is that he's at the extreme, extreme end of the bell curve, and the norms are a little different out there. Just like great players often step in and contribute at abnormally young ages (smacking the crap out of the ball at an alleged 21), they also tend to last longer.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. What are the odds he's a Yankee or Red Sox soon?

It's Kool Aid at best. "Healthy" is a laughable excuse. Ask the Dodgers how they did when they had players out.

Bottom line is that Hendry has no idea how to build a MLB caliber offense. His struggles in developing an OF after being handed Sosa and Alou are well documented. 2008 was an outlier for his tenure, even though he has had a top five NL payroll the entire time. The sooner people get over the flukey 97 win season, the better off their mental health will be in the context of Cubs baseball.

Amazingly ridiculous.

He's right. We should always expect to win 50 games. That way we are always stoked.

That depends on how much of the "He loves St. Louis and doesn't care about money and is the perfect team player" stuff you hear out of St. Louis is true.

If it's legit, he's staying.

If it's just media hype and PR garbage, he's gone after 2011.

Is it really? Take a look at the offensive stats since 2003 despite having a top MLB payroll. 2008 was a complete fluke. Accept that reality.

You know we are one of like 4 teams to have 4 winning seasons since 03?

I do have to say, I like your habit of only showing up when the Cubs are losing or have lost because you never fail to lighten the mood with this ridiculous gimmick that you're clinging to.

Two of those four teams were below NL average in run-scoring, though.

True, but he built winning teams still. Maybe he needs some help with the offense, he does ok with pitching.

Do they hand out rings for that? In terms of the offense(which was the point I was making), the Cubs are right where they should be under Jim Hendry.

This is not a surprise or a shock. This is how they offense has played for the last 7 years under his leadership except for 2008.

An "across MLB" comparison is a bit disingenuous, seeing as how 14 of the teams play with a DH. Though an NL-only comparison would make roughly the same point: Hendry has put together a lot of mediocre offenses.
