I know it hasn't been officially announced yet, but does anyone want to speculate as to who the Cubs might throw for the DH on Sunday? I am making the trip up north from Texas and will be in the bleachers for both games. If they follow the normal rotation, it looks like it would be Wells and Dempster. But with the day off on Thursday and the AS break coming right after, any chance they throw Z on short rest?

They arent going to throw Zambrano on short rest in early july, esp considering that they will have had 1 day off since mid june and that being this thursday

I'm hoping they keep Lilly, Wells and Dempster on normal rest and they pitch Friday, Saturday Sunday. Let Harden have 7 days rest and pitch in one of the Sunday games, and be prepared to keep Marshall rested to possibly eat some innigs, plus Hart if he's still around. And I wouldn't be upset if Zambrano threw an inning or two on Sunday. Even though it would be short rest, it would only be one day short, a very short outing, and the ASB would allow him to rest again. Lilly is probably going to see ASG action, and if he pitches Friday that leaves him Saturday, Sunday, Monday to rest for it.

They've done a horrible job of following through on the strategy from last year of resting Harden more than normal.

Zambrano last pitched on 03 July. Pitching him on 08 July is not throwing him on short rest.

He's referring to Zambrano starting Wednesday, and then one of the games on Sunday.

Yes, I would like this as well. Let Lilly open up the series with Stl, and let Harden go on Sunday so if he burns thru the pen, its right before the break. Id start Harden in game 2 of the DH, and plus the way Lilly has pitched at Wrigley I want him starting the biggest series of the year.

im pretty sure hardin is just in the rotation to make us think we paid for a real frontline starter

I would rather give Carlos the extra days of rest. Wells should not miss a start, and I doubt they would sit Dempster to pitch Z on short rest.

Z only has 14 starts and 90 IP so far this year though. I don't see the need of building in too much extra rest with him. I would not push to have him start on short rest, but I'd let him operate on normal rest for his next start and consider him for an inning or two on Sunday on three days rest.

Well we have our answer...Z on 4 days of rest tonight. Looking like Wells and Z on Sunday. Anyone care to speculate who'll get the day game? If they want to matchup with STL's pitchers I would guess Z then Wells. Of course ESPN/MLB may like having Z instead of Wells pitch on national TV.

Anyone else look at the weather for the weekend? It looks like they'll be dodging rain Friday and Saturday.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

They'll only pitch him a few innings and then go to Marshall? I don't know.

Well Z sure pitched well last night. Too bad we could only get him 1 run. Well that and the blind 2B umpire who missed the pickoff in the first inning that cost Z a run.
