It makes perfect sense. Miles never looks happy in the dugout.

Ryan Freel has been doing very good in Iowa.

Now dont get me wrong, Im not expecting Freel to come back and be anything more than Ryan Freel, but usually, when you have a guy on a rehab, and he has a string of good games, by now the answer would have been simple. Freel called up, Blanco optioned to AAA. It was supposed to happen a week ago. So why hasnt it been done yet? Could they be stalling because they're close to lining up a deal for Miles?

Even if its for a Doug Deeds or John Ford Griffin type, Im all for it, especially if someones foolish enough to pick up any of his salary.

If you're seriously assuming that Hendry can dump Miles AND his contract then you have to assume that the chances the Cubs get anything of value back are slim to none, which would be fine by me. Blanco is essentially Miles with at least better MI defense and is dirt cheap.

I hope Blanco isn't sent down at the expense of Freel. Dude can flash the leather and he isn't completely lost at the plate against big league pitching.

I'd also take Scales over Miles or Freel, even before you factor in their respective paychecks.

Ryan Freel doesn’t know how long he’s going to rehab as a member of the Iowa Cubs. He’s even unsure of his future with the parent Chicago Cubs.

“I’d like to think that I can help the team, but apparently they don’t think that,” the utility player said before the Iowa Cubs’ game Thursday against Memphis at Principal Park. “That’s pretty much a conversation I had with somebody up top.

“Maybe I’ll be designated, traded or released.”

He’s been on the disabled list since May 27 with a left hamstring pull. He says he hasn’t paid much attention to the Chicago Cubs.

“I haven’t watched them or really paid any attention what’s going on up there, to be quite honest with you,” he said. “I’m a guy that realizes there are things that you can’t control.”

He doesn’t know a timetable for his return.

“You’ll have to call up there and ask them,” he said. “They told me whoever the best man is right now is the guy that will get called up. I’m not necessarily the guy, so I’m just anticipating being here for a while.”

Iowa Cubs radio announcer Deene Ehlis interviewed Freel Wednesday on 940-AM before Wednesday’s game at Oklahoma City.

On the hot Oklahoma weather: “It’s a little bit hotter than baseball weather. This is about as close to hell as you can get, as far as the heat’s concern.”

On Oklahoma City pitcher Neftali Feliz’ fastball: “I haven’t seen a guy with an arm like that since probably back in Vietnam and those guys throwing grenades.”

I would think that the odds of Freel being released are much better than the Cubs trading Miles.

Especially after the Iowa interview.

Am I the only one who wasn't aware we had John-Ford Griffin? I remember when he was a top prospect for the Yankees/Jays.

But back to the thread. Yeah, it would be a dream for someone to take Miles off our hands but at this point we'd either have to take a bad salary in return or a mediocre minor leaguer.

Trade Miles for a new Gatorade machine. We'd be lucky if we even got that for him.

The way the Cubs have rundown their Gatorade machines this year, teams know the Cubs are desperate to find a replacement.

I doubt Miles could return us this in a trade when everybody knows the teams hand is forced.

With the way we've been handling the Gatorade machine this season, we could just put Miles up there and have the players use him as a pinata when they're pissed off.

Why would any team want Miles?

Don't forget who hold management positions for the Reds. They are big fans.

There were teams that were very interested in him during the off season, and just because hes had a, shall I say subpar start to this season doesnt mean they still wont have some interest. Granted, we wont get much of anything, just hope they pick up a few mil on his contract.

...wow. That is a pretty crazy thing to say.

Farney.

I really hope Hendry understands the concept of sunk cost and dumps Miles for Freel. I know Freel's hurt all the time, but Scales-Miles-Freel are at worst comparable(As long as Blanco backs up SS). Aaron Miles has no place on this team.

Miles looks like a player someone would create on a video game as a joke.

Well said.

What's wrong with Ryan Freel? He's been consistently around .270-.280 with a .350 OBP in his career. That's plenty good for a backup infielder.

That he sucks.

"I want to play the game the right way and show St. Louis they let somebody go that maybe they shouldn't have," Miles said during a conference call when the Cubs signed him on New Year's Eve. "I was a little surprised given the situation and how well I did last year. I felt I was part of the team. Financially, I understand why they did it. It was still kind of shocking. I felt I had a place over there."

Never forget.

that was before he got older and suffered concussions. he's not good any more.

I think the way to go would be to dump Miles and sign the free agent Grudzielanek, who hit .299/.345/.395 last year in half a season with the Royals. Its not ideal, but he would be a better backup infielder than Miles.

I'd just stick with Blanco/Scales until Aramis came back. Their production isn't likely to be that much worse than Grudz at this point and their defense is likely much better.

When Aramis comes back, Blanco likely is the one to keep.
