If the Cubs had drafted him, would he have ended up like Pie or Corey Patterson?

Is he really this good? Isn't this what Delmon Young is eventually supposed to grow into?

Thoughts.

No the Cubs have the magic ability to ruin each and every prospect

Come on dude, 'developing' prospects and all is a little overrated. People grow into what they are going to be for the most part. If you have superstar talent you'll probably be a superstar. For fringe players and all, maybe it has more influence. I bet all those midgets and quad A players that the Cardinals fluff into regulars might be in part because of their good organization, maybe its pixie dust.

He's pretty good though. Like him as a ballplayer.

Yes, they would've ruined him or never given him a chance to hit lefties. Which he still can't do.

His 2007 season was a fantasy dream, when he out-Jose Reyes'd any of Jose Reyes' seasons.

Only mainstream pro athlete from my college (University of Illinois at Chicago... we've got some soccer players as well).

He's also pretty smart, he graduated with a double major.

the tigers brass has always remarked that his tools have vastly improved since they drafted him, it's really impossible to determine whether he'd have developed into the same quality of player had we drafted him. he's improved a lot on his plate discipline, fwiw.

i think he'd still be a terrific defensive CF regardless

Curious if Ping happens to come into this thread if Granderson was before your time checking out UIC games?

2002 scouting report:

COMMENT: Good athletic frame. Well-toned and strong. Fair bat speed, occasional power. Long, strong stride; average speed to 1B. Adequate under way. Solid, average, playable arm. Adequate range. Skills for corner outfielder. Plays hard.

i love that draft. Bullington, Gruler, Loewen, Everts picked before a slew of all star players and real solid starters (francoeur notwithstanding)

I strongly disagree. I think minor league coaching is very important when developing prospects. I think I value minor league coaching more than major league coaching.

Why would anyone argue your second point?
