Andres Blanco = Cesar Izturis

I'm probably just stating the obvious here but he is almost the same player. Blanco looks and plays like a major league fielder but bats like a minor leaguer. Too bad he and Jake Fox can't trade fielding prowess.

No, Izturis was not a good fielder. Not for us anyway. Blanco actually is.

 

I'm totally in favor of dumping Miles and keeping Blanco around as a late-inning defense guy. And he's probably just as good a hitter as Miles is.

I don't understand the Blanco hate. He actually is a good defensive SS, and currently the only healthy option to backup SS. He's not leading off, he's not playing every day, he's not killing the offense, the manager doesn't have an unhealthy adoration for him, and he isn't expected to be an all-star by anyone.

There really is not a huge problem with a Izturis / Blanco type of player on a 25 man roster as a utility infielder. The problem with Izturis is that he was being paid as a starter and the plan seemed to be to actually let him be the starter until Lou gave the job to Theriot. Blanco is fine in a back up role, but the Miles / Blanco combination is redundant and it will weaken the bench to have both of them around if that is what happens when Miles gets off the DL.

I think the only reason Blanco is up now is because Miles is on the DL.

I would be pissed if we traded Greg Maddux for Blanco, or were paying Blanco millions of dollars. As it is, I'm not pissed, just a little disappointed we don't have a better option.

The interest wasn't there for Marquis to allow Hendry to get good value, much less fleece anybody.

 

There were mixed reports about exactly what Hendry could have gotten from the Dodgers for Maddux. Some reports were that he could have gotten a couple of pretty good prospects for him, others said all the Dodgers would offer was Cesar.
