It's time to begone with Lou or Gerald Perry. This team is really underachieving Aramis or not. While Lou has gotten us to the playoffs 2 straight times, the Cubs have been worthless in both. I assume when we hired Lou our intention was to win a World Series not go 2 and out. And quite frankly, I don't think Lou gives a [expletive] anymore. He has yet to blow up this season despite our offensive struggles something he did 2 years in a row and fired the team up. Nothing this year. Or you could fire Gerald Perry because our offense has been nothing short of abysmal this season. All I know is something has to happen and hopefully quick because this team looks like one of the worst in baseball right now.

Why are people so in love with Lou here? Dusty got us farther in the playoffs than him.

I love when people pretend that the playoff's aren't a crapshoot.

Nobodys in love with Lou, but hes not to blame here, and neither is Perry. He has what he has to work with, and theyre not producing. Theres not much he can do about that except for A. Wait for them to wake up or B. Arrange a little visit from the PED fairy. Right now, were 4 games out with a lot of baseball to play. I know it feels like were a <.400 team down by 10 games, but a slump will do that. 6 game losing streeks happen, and if you're losing a bunch of 7-5 games or 3-1 games, its the same result. Our offense took a huge hit with Aram, but they're still good enough to crank out enough runs to back up the great pitching weve been seeing.

i love the idea that perry should be fired. the cubs had a really good offense last year and were pretty good this year up until Monday; they have 5 bad games and now he's on thin ice? give me a break.

by the way, i hear that cubs.com has a great message board.

Not to mention the bad performances have come against some decent pitchers and two of the games were played at PetCo.

What does playing at Petco have to do with anything? The Padres sure seem fine scoring runs there. You don't score runs by just hitting home runs.

When you score three runs in five games, that's pretty awful.

Why is it that every thread, no matter the original topic seems to end up the same way lately?

Heh, because pretty much everyone on the team sucks right now.

I can't believe this team is only 4 games out of first place.

It probably has something to do with the fact that he's a good manager.

Have some perspective, think about how the Cubs did the season before Lou got here, look at what he did the 2 full seasons he was here, think of all the attributes about this ballclub that immediately changed when he came aboard. Then think of all the injuries and turmoil we've had this year. No one in their right mind would consider all that, and then fire a manager 25% into the season when his team is above .500

I'm simply pointing out that the Cubs are in a slump and that there could possibly be certain factors contributing to that slump, say good pitching and playing in a pitcher's park. Maybe once those factors go away so does the slump. Point is, this mass panic is worthless until it becomes a continuing trend.

I think back to early in the season when Len or Bob mentioned nobody on the team starting the season on the DL. next thing you know, our best players started dropping like flies. Why cant Aaron Miles seperate a shoulder or Neil Cotts strain a hammy?

Well, the 2007 team had a lot more talent than the 2006 team. I'd say that had more to do with the increase in wins, rather than Lou being on the bench.

I don't see how anyone can see Lou changing the philosophical approach of this teams offense and say that, that didn't have anything to do with it. I don't like the way Lou handles a lot of things but he helped change the team from a free swinging team to a team who prides themselves in taking pitches.

Yes it did, but talent alone isn't enough. Who was the one that finally gave players like Theriot and Soto a shot to play every day? Who was the manager that turned one of the least patient teams in baseball into the most (in 2008)? None of the "talent" we gained between 06 and 07 was all that renowned for patient hitting and getting on base at a high clip. Just two of several examples that illustrate why Lou is night and day better than Dusty Baker as a manager, and beyond that, one of the better managers in baseball.
