The first paragraph is for Werner:

Arizona Phil @ TCR[/url]"]Dwayne Kemp got a start at 3B today (the third different position he has played in his last three games), an indication that he is likely being groomed as a "super-sub" utility guy. Unfazed by constantly getting moved around in the field, Kempy continued his hot hitting, smashing a triple off the right-centerfield fence, although he followed that with a brain-fart baserunning gaffe, getting thrown out at the plate 4-2 trying to score on a grounder to 2B with no outs.

And Iowa Cubs RHP Justin Berg (at Fitch Park rehabbing from a sore shoulder the last couple of weeks) left EXST today, presumably en route to rejoin the I-Cubs. Berg looked good throwing an inning yesterday in Phoenix, getting four ground balls (his bread & butter).

Antigua started today and went 2 scoreless. Phil expects Su-Min Jung to start tomorrow.

Yesterday, Arizona Phil responded this way to a question I asked about him saying Suarez and Su-Min Jung were ready for Boise or Peoria:

Yes, unless the Cubs want to keep all of the Korean kids (and Coach Min-Kyu Sung) together at Fitch for the Summer. But otherwise, I would say Suarez, Pena, and Jung all have the chops to move up to Boise and be rotation starters and/or "piggyback" long relievers. (Actually, any one of the three could probably pitch at Peoria right now if there were openings for them).

And as I think I've mentioned previously, Justin Berg should be returning to the Iowa bullpen fairly soon, Marco Carrillo will likely get moved up to the Daytona or Tennessee starting rotation VERY soon, I would think Robert Hernandez should be back at Daytona within a week or two, and Manolin DeLeon and/or Josh Lansford could get promotions to the Peoria or Daytona bullpen at any time (both project as relievers, not starters).

Converted OF Andres Quezada is another pitcher who has pitched very well at EXST and (because he's 23) the Cubs might be looking to move him up to Peoria or Daytona ASAP, too. He's been a starting pitcher at EXST, so he could start or be used to "piggyback' at Peoria or Daytona. .

Also, RHP Cedric Redmond (rehabbing broken finger) is about ready to return to game action at EXST. He could get promoted quickly if he shows he's 100% He projects as a reliever.

Of course a lot of these moves will depend on somebody getting hurt, demoted, or released.

What's the weather looking like in Peoria?

On and off showers. Probably another PPD game tonight.

\:D/ That's what I wanted to hear.

Game has officially been postponed.

Jake Fox is playing 3B tonight for Iowa.

He's also hit his 16th HR.

Awesome. Hopefully he can at least play decent at 3b.

Robinson Chirinos to the Daytona DL with a broken hand. Luis Flores promoted from Peoria to Daytona. For now, Michael Brenly is the only catcher on Peoria's roster (Mario Mercedes is on the DL).

That can't possibly last for very long - you can't run your catcher out there every single game.
