Can Scales not play 3B?

There are a whole lot of different things that could or could not be wrong with his shoulder. He could have completely torn everything or the capsule may just be loose. If he tore anything, let's hope it's the rotator cuff and not the labrum as that's a lot easier to repair and allows for a lot closer return to normal than a labrum tear in terms of range of motion. Plus, there's a lot more structure in the back of the shoulder to hold things together than in the front.

If the capsule just got a little loose and nothing tore, he can realistically do 6-8 weeks of rehab to tighten it back up and probably be 85-90% when he comes back. At that point, you just have to hope he doesn't aggravate it again. (Yes, I've had my right shouler operated on twice for labrum tears.

Now that I just saw saw it, yeah, that's a labrum tear most likely. Suck.

Welcome to the club Mul, 3 more to catch up. Rotator cuff has a longer healing time though. The best news is it is non-throwing shoulder.

Alright time for the bullpen. I can't wait.

Yep.

Meanwhile Chad Gaudin (who started for the Padres tonight) is shutting out the Astros through 5.

No it's not. That's the front shoulder at the plate. The throwing is a controlled motion you can work with a little bit less ability on. The front shoulder at the plate is something you just have to let rip, especially the way he swings. That's what killed Rolen. I'm reeeeeaaaaal worried at this point.

Do you remember how long Rolen was out?

And yeah the Scales slide was all kinds of awesome.
