i have not seen WVU play that much this year. correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't they a wing-oriented team? again, i know little about the team, but i don't see them being able to handle UK's guard and interior play. i know UK is beatable -- i'm not blind. i'm just wondering, what is leading you guys to pick WVU?

West Virginia is pretty good, I could see people picking them over you. Your lack of shooting really scares people aways.

West Virginia defends like crazy and sometimes (often?) can't put the ball in the hoop. They're kinda like the UCLA teams under Howland (when they were making Final 4s). Lots of talent but they win ugly and can't score for some reason.

I think a lot of people feel UK will crap the bed once they play a good team. Their schedule did not prepare them very well. Of course, I said the same thing about Memphis in 2008 (though their noncon was tougher than UK's.)

WVU's best players are guards, but they rebound like possessed madmen and were one of the best in the country at doing so. They're also big which will help them against UK (also big).

I think this UK team is way less disciplined than that Memphis team. Everyone remembers Rose, but that team had some veteran players out there. UK's play can devolve into a mess for long stretches of time from what I've seen. If I'm taking on UK I send some goon at Cousins and get him to lose his [expletive].

Agreed. Plus I don't see where Wall is comparable to Rose. I'm sorry, but I don't think he is in Rose's league.

Here are the first round games for the IMPORTANT tournaments:

CBI:

Indiana State @ St. Louis

Green Bay @ Akron

Virginia Commonwealth @ George Washington

Charleston @ Eastern Kentucky

Boston University @ Oregon State

Colorado State @ Morehead State

IUPUI @ Hofstra

Duquesne @ Princeton

College Insider:

South Dakota @ Creighton

Fairfield @ George Mason

Western Carolina @ Marshall

Pacific @ Loyola Marymount

Middle Tennessee State @ Missouri State

Harvard @ Appalachian State

Portland @ Northern Colorado

Southern Mississippi @ Louisiana Tech

I'm guessing a few teams rejected invites, cause there are better teams that didn't make the NIT than that.

There's no representation from the power conferences in either of these tournaments. Perhaps they just assume that teams from those conferences wouldn't be interested in a third-rate or fourth-rate tournament.

No love for Oregon State?

Oops; I should have said little representation (rather than none).

Well I have my questions about Weber's coaching ability. But the recruiting thing is still a huge issue. I don't follow this stuff, especially when it comes to Illinois, nearly as much as you guys but my very subjective opinion is that it really shouldn't be that hard to pull in top 10 classes to Illinois.

Is there anything stopping Illinois from throwing gobs of money at Jamie Dixon or whoever? I really do think if you find your Thad Matta you'd see Illinois rule the Big 10. It's a huge state with no real in state competitor.

Here is why Illinois is hard to recruit to:

1) The CPL has never been friendly to us, especially after the Jimmy Collins fiasco. You've got to pay if you want the players.

2) Illinois cannot afford to get it's hands dirty. There is a long history of violations, and the NCAA sees us in that light.

The pay to play garbage is such a cop-out. I'm eager to hear the Illini backpedaling once they do land a couple of CPL kids. Somehow, they'll be doing it the right way, I'm sure. Or they'll have gotten the kids who don't have their hands out.

But anyone who goes elsewhere was probably dirty and taking cash under the table.

you see, illinois gets crap for recruiting players early so they can compete with programs like ku for kids and then you see stuff like this.

if illinois lands cpl players, it's because weber has been eating dinner with their families since they were 14, not because he swooped into the congo and bought kamala and, more importantly, his handler kim chee, like the great white hunter you have for yourselves.

self has the backing to show up with a dump-truck full of cash and grab these hessians at the last moment. weber needs to recruit the other ones, the ones without entourages and private armies, for years.
