isn't the speculation that Wells will be called up to take Z's place (currently scheduled for Friday)?

I haven't seen anything concrete so I just went with the current scheduled starter. Just speculation that it'd be Ascanio or Wells. Wells obviously lines up better with Z's spot in the rotation.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to question your reasoning for putting him there, just curious. I wonder if a decision will be made on Zambrano before Iowa's game. If the Cubs are still unsure I'd imagine they hold Wells back until they know what they're going to do.

What's preferable, having him make that start on 9 days rest, or having him start today and just go 3-4 innings and then start Friday on 3 days rest. I would think it would be better to have a guy make his starting debut coming off short rest and a light workload rather than unusually long rest. He's already going to have the adrenaline flowing.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I was reading the previous posts. If they know they're going to use him Friday, get him 60-70 pitches today and them bring him back on 3 days rest Friday.

Is this the guy who was a Cards farmhand at one point? I can never remember if he's the same guy.

No. The Blue Jays had him for a short while last season as a Rule 5 pick but he was returned to the Cubs. He was drafted and developed by the Cubs.

I'm pretty sure he was drafted and signed by the Cubs and has only spent a couple weeks with Toronto as a Rule 5 guy before returning.

what about getting him up and starting him tomorrow and pushing everyone else back one day? just throwing ideas out. i'm not sure what's preferable. they may not want to throw the other starters off of their regular routines.

Thanks to rain delays and a JR Mathes spot start, Randy Wells last pitched on 4/27 (currently on 6 days rest). Mitch Atkins, who is next up in the rotation, last threw on 4/30 (currently on 3 days rest)

I'd be all for pushing Harden back some, but I'm not sure you need to do that with Lilly/Marshall. Hah, I just realized the Cubs two lefties are the married couple on How I Met Your Mother.

i hadn't bothered to check that Wells is already on six days rest. i'm really curious to see how they handle this.

Traded: RHP Dumas Garcia to Blue Jays for future considerations

From BA. This happened sometime between April 24 and May 1.

Wells throws 3 hitless innings, then gets removed for Matthes. Makes it pretty obvious he's lined up to take Z's start on Friday. Wells' ERA is 2.77 after this his 5th start, with decent peripherals. He's 26.

Dolis carried a no-hitter into the 5th.

Archer makes a throwing error and walks a couple of guys while allowing a run in the first. Then he's pulled after only two innings. That doesn't sound good.

no worries, that was the plan today to also get Cabrera his work.

What happened with Vitters and Pevey in the 4th? I see both got tossed.

What happened with Vitters and Pevey in the 4th? I see both got tossed.

From Nathan Baliva at http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090504&content_id=576654&vkey=news_t443&fext=.jsp&sid=t443.

Josh Vitters appeared to tie the game in the top of the second with a home run down the left field line, but home plate umpire Greg Stanzak called it foul drawing the ire of Chiefs Manager Marty Pevey. Vitters eventually struck out and the Chiefs went in order.

That call had repercussions in the top of the fourth. Vitters hit the first pitch off his left foot for a foul ball, but Stanzak called him out when catcher Beau Brooks picked up the ball and tagged Vitters. An argument ensued between Vitters, Pevey and Stanzak that resulted in an immediate ejection of Vitters. Stanzak then conferred with base umpire Adam Schwarz who ruled the ball foul. Pevey was then ejected by Stanzak after another confrontation. Michael Brenly pinch-hit for Vitters and bounced out to short. On the next pitch the Chiefs tied the game as Nelson Perez hit his seventh homer of the season, a solo shot to straight away centerfield. Ryan Flaherty followed with a two-out walk and stole second. Luis Flores walked and Josh Harrison put Peoria on top 2-1 with a single to left.

Also, David Macias got sent up to Iowa for a few games to fill a roster need..pinch hit tonight.
They already have 5 outfielders in Iowa......what roster need was he filling?

Not sure..just heard on the Chiefs radio broadcast that since they were playing in Cedar Rapids, a player from Peoria would work best because they were closest. Someone with the Chiefs drove him halfway, and someone from the I-Cubs picked him up halfway....he pinch hit tonight for Iowa.
