Lopez walked

Ojeda grounded an IF single off the umpire (dead ball), Lopez to second

Lopez took third, Ojeda took second on a passed ball

Tracy doubled (ground rule) to right field , Lopez & Ojeda scored

Reynolds bunted for an IF single to first base , Reynolds to third

Byrnes grounded into a FC, 6-4, Reynolds scored, Young out at second

Young popped out (foul) to third base

Byrnes stole second base

Upton struck out swinging

That was a nice slider to end the inning at least. Hopefully he settles in and can at least go 5.

 

yeah that last pitch was a lot more like it. shoulder-high changeups don't tend to end well.

So we have a walk, a single on a groundball that hit the umpire, a ground rule double on a pitch at someone's eyes, a bunt single that should've been caught, and a slow roller to short. What a crappy way to give up 3 runs.

 

Yeah he's been really unlucky this inning.

 

He walked the leadoff guy, gave up a double and threw a wild pitch. The ball that hit the umpire isn't really bad luck against Dempster. He didn't pitch particularly well no matter how you cut it.

I thought the umpire was in effect a part of the field of play. Why would you not "play" the ball after it hit the ump? Why does it become a dead ball? Is it scored a single for the batter?

The umpire was shielding the defender.
