If Fox was a Cardinal he would be the leading ROY candidate right now.

Don't insult the Cardinals, he'd be an MVP.

Bump after missing last night's game after it flared up again. Bruce didn't have a piece about it. This is what Rogers had to say:

Phil Rogers[/url]"]HOUSTON -- Derrek Lee's stiff neck is becoming a pain for the Cubs. But he does not foresee a scenario where it could land him on the disabled list.

"Oh, no," Lee said Wednesday night after the 6-3 victory over Houston. "I promise you that's impossible."

Lee was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a recurrence of the condition that limited him to one at-bat in the weekend series at St. Louis on April 26-28. His status for the remainder of this five-game trip, which ends in Milwaukee, is uncertain.

Great. I thought Lou was just resting Lee too.

Hell we may as well get the Harden DL stint over with too. Who else hasn't been injured? How about Soriano? Time for him to get hurt as well

Does anyone know how long he could be out if he chose surgery? It might be worth looking at if we could have him back by August or so and close to 100% compared to having this thing continue to linger on. Especially considering we have a Micah Hoffpauir on the bench and Jake Fox tearing it up in Iowa.

Fox seems to be back to the hitter he has always been.

That article made it seem like having surgery would jeopardize Lee's career, otherwise he would've done it over one of the last few offseasons.

I gotta think that if he had surgery now, he'd be gone the rest of the year. My mom had this surgery, and for your average person, adding in the recovery time and then the PT, it took a while. For a professional athlete, the physical demands are greater. We don't know the specifics of the issue, so it's hard to say.

Ok if his neck is sore then DL his ass right now. We have a suitable replacement for him at 1st base, enough with this crap of playing a man short every single damn game of this year. Last night with Hoff at the plate with the bases loaded facing Mitch Stetter, whos holding LH hitters to under .100, yet RH's are hitting almost .300, and Lee cant take 1 AB and play 2 innings of D? This 1 incident last night could very well of cost us the game. Had Lee been able to take the AB, or heaven forbid, Lee been on the DL allowing us to have another RH hitter who can play 1st base, then we probably see Marmol the next inning. Im tired of Lees arrogance of having to play every game, and/or not going on the DL when its best for the club. We simply cannot be playing a man down at this point.

On the same subject, why the hell couldnt Hill had taken that Ab, and moved to 1st base? The night before in basically the exact situation, Lou ph for Fuku against Stetter with Soto, but yet allows Hoff to face him. Lous decision making is driving me crazy, along with this entire damn organization. When the guy who is sore or has a minor injury isnt hitting for crap, and the backup to him has continued to hit, then just DL him and call up a replacement. Its not that hard to imagine that 1 of the kids couldnt duplicate Lees numbers so far.

I still think we should have traded Lee in the offseason while he still had some value. At least Lou is starting to realize that he shouldn't be hitting 3rd. Honestly, I would rather have another stud reliever/closer than Lee.

We couldn't trade him in the offseason. Lee has a no trade clause that he appears unwilling to waive and until he does, we can't trade him.

He also has 10/5 protection (10 years in the league and 5 with his current team) which allows him to veto any trade.

That's true, but if a guy knows that his team/fans want him gone, alot of times he isn't gonna force the organization to keep him against their will. That's not a desirable situation for a player to be in.

Did we ever try to trade him and have him invoke the clause? I never heard anything.

I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that he was on the block in the offseason, but was taken off when he informed Hendry that he would not waive his NTC. I think he's happy and settled here with his family and just doesn't want to move.

As far as a deal actually being in place for him, no I don't believe things ever got that far.

at this point hendry could take a dump in a bag and get better value for that than he would for lee.

If trading him was a possibility (i.e. no NTC or 10/5 rights) then the key would be to wait for a hot streak. If he could put together 10 or so straight games of really hot hitting, some GM would be convinced he was back to form and give something decent up for him.

Convincing a GM that Lee has value is not the problem. The problem is paying his contract this year and next. Hendry has been very reluctant to pay players to go away. So if you want to speculate about trading Lee, look for teams that have an equally bad contract in a place where Lee maybe wouldn't mind going. That seems like a pretty tall order since 1st base is not typically a position that teams have trouble filling.
