you can always strike him out on sliders low and away, unless he hits the game winning homer......on a slider low and away. That shot off of Perez was not a fastball, folks

That's the beautiful thing about Soriano when he's seeing the ball well...he can crank just about any pitch.

I'm pretty sure 98 was the year Sosa learned to draw walks. Same year he became a completely different and much better offensive player.

I'm sure the juice helped Sammy's HR totals, but laying off the pitch down and off the plate and taking balls on the outer half to the opposite field are what made him a different player.

 

Prior to '98 Sammy could be made a fool of by throwing stuff outside (and particularly down), a la Soriano. His selectivity is what made him great. If Sori could condition himself to just let breaking balls low and away go, he could put up some scary numbers.

 

I'm not holding my breath, though.
