WRONG... he makes big plays in the offensive zone and will piss the [expletive] out of the likes of Holmstrom. Beach won't tolerate an [expletive] in front of the net.

yah. i look forward to having him on the team next year. he is basically one of these young guys who are great agitators. except on top of that he can really play. mix of a guy like avery and a power forward like brown or shanahan

EXACTLY!!!

I've always compared him to a Probert/Grimson/Getzlaf type of character... I hope I see him in this series!

Would we even be allowed to call him up?

yah kronwall has a rep as a dirty [expletive]. he wil lget his eventually. good take on it:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Video-Kronwall-s-devastating-hit-on-Havlat-in-G?urn=nhl,165417

The problem with this guys take on it is this....almost every check can be called charging if you are going to pull out the rule book. He also is the big scott stevens fan, how he can call kronwall a questionable player and like scott stevens seems a little inconsistent. Steven ruined several careers with hits similar to Kronwalls. Like I said earlier, Kronwall has a rep for leaving his feet on big hits. He did not on this hit and it was perfectly clean. I think what is worse is again the refs look at the damage done and than give a penalty. If you didnt call it as a penalty when it happened, what changed your mind a minute later.

edit: sorry I messed up..the wisneski guy or puck daddy is the stevens fan. I have no idea who this seth from empty netters is

From everything I've read... yes... I am not 100% concrete on the rules, though... I sure hope Beach can play in Game 4 , though!!

Right...I think the 5 minute interference was put in the rule book to penalize Stevens type his. Seriously, with all the research coming out on the long term problems that guys with concussion problems encounter...hits like this should be penalized in a way that will make guys stop going for headshots. Yah its fun to watch someone get lit up (as long as your team isn't on the receiving end), but the NHL is really trying to reduce headshots and thats why hits like this get called so harshly. And they should be. Tonight's game would have been a perfectly entertaining game without having to watch Havlat out cold with his eyes open.

you don't become probert or getzlaf immediately upon reaching the NHL, and grimson probably played 2 minutes a game in the playoffs.

but what do you call the stevens hit on lindros from 2000? it couldn't be interference because lindros had the puck. i guess roughing, but really, lindros was just skating with his head down and stevens blindsided him. it was a clean hit that was violent and stevens' shoulder or upper arm hit lindros' head. if they're going to start assessing 5 minutes for that then they're going to have to make a new rule.

also, probert, grimson, and getzlaf are like...entirely different players. grimson's career high in points over an entire season was 6. probert had enough skill to play a regular shift pretty well, but is nothing like getzlaf, who's a franchise center.

well yeah, i just think that as far as playing a role, probert actually could influence the game more than grimson. but yes, getzlaf is far more talented than probert, who was better than grimson.

regardless, it's inane to suggest that calling up beach would have a huge impact on the series.

i agree with you about grimson. i was just pointing out that his comparison was weird.

i think beach can be called up but i'm definitely not 100% sure. i think brad winchester recently played his first career games in the NHL with the oilers during their cup finals run, but i don't remember the circumstances of his apperance.

I asked the Blackhawks twitter site about Beach and they said no and Collin Fraser is ready to go.

That's the obvious move and the right one. I think he's the only regular healthy scratch among the guys who were with the team most of the year. I mean forwards. I guess Johnson is still hanging out. And what ever happened to Brent Sopel? I'm fine with where he is, but is he still hurt?

Fwiw, around here Beach gets compared to Bertuzzi a lot. Big, skilled, inconsistent, takes bad penalties and not great in the locker room.

That's a pretty good run down of it.

And yea, it's not smart to call up Beach and test him in the playoffs right away. In all honesty, I forgot about Fraser.

Tribune is awesome today:

"Apparently if my ears weren't playing tricks on me Friday night, Detroit (is really, really awful). That's what the crowd at the United Center was chanting, though much more colorfully than your favorite family newspaper might put it."

and then:

"The Hawks won this one when Patrick Sharp scored less than two minutes into overtime, sending the crowd into decibel levels deemed dangerous by OSHA."

Here is the playoff beard progress as well:

I was at Game 2 in Detroit and thought we really had a shot. So sick of these odd-man rushes killing us after we're all over them. Sidenote - the Det fans were relatively sociable, minus the one guy who wanted us to "die in the Chicago Fire 2."

Went again last night and it reminded me of Game 5 vs. Calgary. Started out all over them, got a couple back-to-back and the place was rocking. The poor power plays (5+2 minutes) late in the first really seemed to turn the tides, but the Pahlsson goal swung it back. The hit on Havlat was technically clean, just vicious. Marty saw that he was going to get railed, so he let the puck go through his feet hoping that would avoid the check. Didn't work. I don't see how he'll play Sunday, let alone the rest of the playoffs to be honest. It'll be interesting to see how this affects his UFA status. The goal by Sharp was huge, and even if we don't win the series, it proves that we can hang with Detroit. Going again Sunday, should be nuts. Hopefully the quick turnaround hurts Detroit as they did seem to be a little gassed towards the end.

Sidenote - Steve McCarthy was sitting next to me. Interesting to see him at a Hawks/Detroit playoff game as he's been with both orgs. I didn't see him cheer, but apparently he stood up and clapped a bit after the OT winner. He said he's busy trying to get healthy as he had to sit out almost the whole year in ATL with an injury, but is a FA this summer, so he's looking to break back into the league somewhere he can get some minutes. Seemed like a pretty nice guy, as most hockey players tend to be off the ice.
