As far as recapping games, I don't think this is too much of an issue, but how easy is it gonna be to get quotes from a guy over the phone, I can't imagine too many people of importance are willing to do phone calls after the game. Edited by SouthSideRyan

i figured this sort of thing would start happening. same with newspapers sending reporters to cover major sporting events like the final four, various pro sports championships, etc. they may just decide it's easier and cheaper to run the AP summary than to pay one of your guys to go down there and report.

Not a whole lot to say at this point, guys. Just bear with us for a bit. We had a meeting today, and this was not an easy decision to make for the people who made it. I'll be up in Milwaukee next weekend. I'll also do the best I can from afar. I hope we're back out there sooner rather than later. In the meantime, stick with me. I appreciate your support.

that's got to be disappointing for you bruce, as well as us as your readers. unfortunately, it seems to be the way that things are heading. i'm sure it's a matter of time that there won't be much road coverage of many teams in most sports (except football).

Honestly it was overkill and many reporters took advantage of the situation to get lazy.

Do they really need 50 reporters sticking a micropohone in a players face after a game getting the same quotes?

The Cubs "notes" section of just about every paper had the same information so clearly for the most part guys were sitting in the same interview rooms getting the same information and just regurgitating it without making any extra effort to get fresh information.

They can also probably write better game stories watching on TV with replays and analysis than they can by watching from the press box anyway.

The whole beat writer thing is still set up based on old timey days when all the games weren't on TV and there was no ESPN, MLB Network, etc to air live press conferences. The expense involved with a guy traveling with a team compared to the actual value the newspapers get from it doesn't add up anymore.

I was hoping we had traded Aaron Miles. Color me disappointed.

Same here :(

OK people:

1) If this was a trade, it would be in transactions.

2) If we were trading Miles, then how would he not still be a frequent flyer?

I thought he was just released.

Since I know that the RiverCats have a TV in the press box, I'm going to assume that all of the pro teams have at least one where they show the game feed and can cue up replays for the press when needed.

A - people put threads in the wrong forums all the time, so that's meaningless

B - the title could be a cute way of saying Miles wasn't going to be flying with the team anymore

C - my post was primarily sarcasm

Bruce,

Are you still going to be writing the game stories and notes for away games or will the Herald be relying on the AP or other sources for these stories?
