Assuming it's the same rule as in the past you can put him on the DL now with the understanding that you'd have to release him if he doesn't start the season on the major league DL. My understanding is that it's a certainty that he will, so you're really not risking anything.

Despite the fact that an article on the Twins website states that it will be at least two weeks and possibly a month into the season before Mauer rejoins the team, paranoia rules. The thought of Abuck picking up mauer on the waiver wire...arg...I will just have to pick up a reserve catcher as soon as Mauer is officially on the DL. Edited by Quakers

as soon as sheets is DL-eligible.

I think you're wrong! I bet Sandoval is eligible at 3b prior to Sheets being eligible for the DL. He's not even on a team.

Sheets was made DL eligible by exception prior to Sandoval being made 3b eligible.

If the waiver order is the same as the draft owner, then I'll pick him up instead. Now you can feel reassured you can drop him.

Actually, I have a roster question regarding minor league eligibility:

Jordan Zimmerman was named the Nats' 5th starter, but he's not going to pitch until the end of April. How long can I keep him stashed on my minor league roster before I have to activate him? Until he gets called up, or until he actually exhausts his eligibility (not that I'll necessarily want to keep him there that long)?

Don't quote me on this, but I think:

You can leave him down there until the end of the season, I believe. However, if he were to use up his minor league eligibility, he'd have to be kept as a keeper or cut from your team going into the next season.

If you call him up during the season, you can't send him back down once he's used up his rookie eligibility. Unless, of course, his major league club sends him down.

huh?

i think you can keep him on your minor league roster until he makes 10 big league starts. then you bring him up or lose him. i don't remember BBB's first paragraph being an option at all...so he could make 35 starts in the bigs this year and remain on his minor league roster all season? that doesn't sound right.

interested in posada or martinez?

You should talk to Raisin. Raisin's C has been demoted. Ask for the world. But, wait until week 2.

Yeah, it's been a banner week for me between Carlos Marmol and Jeff Clement.

My Yahoo roto league staff has:

John Lackey, Joey Devine, Brandon Morrow, David Price, and Gio Gonzalez. Only 2 DL spots and I can't cut Price and Gio or I lose them, and they are both free keepers beyond our 5. So, I'll be playing w/ 1 bench spot for about a month at least.

You can keep him in the minors until he is not minor league eligible.

 Just to confusify Juan's simple explaination. You can keep him in your Roadkill minors until he is not minor league eligible, unless his real club actually puts him back into the real minor leagues again and that is his current real life placement.
