Dontrelle Willis goes Greinke

Tigers placed LHP Dontrelle Willis on the 15-day disabled list with an anxiety disorder.

"This is not depression," Willis said Sunday. "This is something totally different. This is something where they saw something in my blood that they didn't like. I'm not crazy, though my teammates might think that I'm crazy." He went 0-2 with a 9.38 ERA in eight appearances this spring and wasn't going to be a factor in April anyway.

That sounds reeeeaal promising.

Quite a fall from grace, but gimmicky pitchers like him never last. Why the hell did Dombroski give him that huge contract?

or why did he trade Andrew Miller for him, is a better question

may have had something to do with cabrera

and do we still think miller is even that good?

Considering his history, potential, and lack of major league service time, yes.

They're really going to regret trading Maybin, though.

they might, if maybin ever cuts down his strikeouts. right now i see him as a future mike cameron, which really isn't bad at all, but not someone that i'd lose sleep over if i ended up with miggy cabrera in return.

potential, yes, but what history? his small minor league career has mixed numbers. the only place he's really been that good was aa at age 22 (4 starts) and then a few brief appearances in A ball from 21-23 that made his career numbers look good. if you take out that 4 start stretch at aa there's not much to get that excited about, numbers wise, and so far at the major league level he's shown nothing.

I was thinking more along the lines of what made him a serious contender for the #1 overall pick in the 2006 draft and what made him the eventual #6 overall pick. You cannot ignore what he showcased in college, especially considering his current age.

Also, you have to frame his career in context. What you are saying makes it sound like he's been out of college for a significant period of time. You also make it sound like he only spent a short amount of time in the minor leagues in 2007. In fact, he spent half the season (78 innings) in the minors and pitched quite well there in 2007. I really do not think that you can overlook those 11 starts, especially given Miller's short and limited career.
