I'm surprised at how much both Auburn and Florida's crowds are into these games. Especially considering Florida just won two national titles in a row a couple of years ago.

The NIT: What the SEC is good for.

I don't like Notre Dame as a match up with Penn State. Seems like no one on PSU is over 6'6", so who stops Harongondy? Maybe they should just let him get his numbers and try to shut down the perimeter

That was about as much fun as it's possible to have at the NIT. Crowd was about evenly split, so the ND fans stepped their game up, making it much more exciting.

It's too bad Big East teams know how to play defense, because if we'd gotten that many open 3's all year, we'd probably be in the big tournament right now.

I'm looking forward to playing Penn State. I've watched very little of them this year, so I have no idea what they're best at doing, but if they like to run as Truffle/Derwood have said, I like the matchup. We thrive on fast-moving games.

PSU likes to run, and they like to shoot 3's. Cornley is the only consistent inside scorer, and he's only 6'5" (but has a nice hook shot). They may need to pull a "hack-a-Shaq" on Harongondy while guarding the perimeter and hoping for the best. If ND can't defend the 3, they may be in trouble, as the Nittany Lions have 3 or 4 guys with NBA range from beyond the arc.

Hack-a-Harangody isn't such a good idea as Luke shoots FT's pretty well, close to 80 percent I believe. ND is long enough to defend the 3 and does a pretty good job with it sometimes - Jodie Meeks didn't get an open look until the last half of the second half tonight - but they're inconsistent defensively. PSU's lack of size will be a big help, ND's biggest weakness is post defense, as Luke's too short to guard most big men and we don't have anyone else big that's worth a crap on defense.

sounds like it'll be Cornley vs. Harongondy inside and then a 3 point shooting contest. Could be fun.

Hack-a-Harongondy could work as long as they aren't allowing "and-one's'

Did Digger even show his face tonight?

No, it was Jay Williams in the studio for halftime, and he already predicted Baylor would win easily

That boring Big Ten defense strikes again

Big Ten >> Big East

Absolutely. The team that finished tied for 4th in the Big Ten beat the team that finished tied for 9th in the Big East (who also has a history of sucking beyond belief in the city of New York), so it's settled.

ha ha ha, just talking a little trash. There seemed to be a lid on the basket for ND in the first half....I've never seen so many gimme layups roll off the rim. I thought Harongody was going to eat PSU alive inside, but they suddenly came up with some interior defense in the past week. Who knew?

He wasn't serious, but it's pretty disingenuous to say that about PSU when they were clearly viewed as the 8th best Big Ten team by the tourneys.

I missed the game, but that's happened from time to time with us. Just a bad time for it to happen. I noticed McAlarney shot 2/11, which is pretty much par for the course with him. I was hoping to win the NIT, but the season was a disappointment either way.

SSR, I was drunk when I made that post. Don't worry about it. 8-)
