I know it's just the NIT, but this Penn St/Baylor championship game is pretty fun to watch so far.

making the NIT was totally better than making the big dance and either losing in the first or, if an upset, the second round.

i know the NIT gets dumped on a lot, but there are 344 d-i teams and penn st and baylor are better than at least the teams that didn't make the ncaa tourney plus at least most of the teams seeded 13 and higher. that's like 50th out of 344 - the equivalent of something like the peach bowl in ncaa football.

congrats to cornley and "i beat off in the library" pringle and "i busted my face open" morrissey.

I don't dislike the NIT, but I knew there was general distaste for it on the board.

where this was really valuable was in the extra games/practice time for all the underclassmen. We lose Cornley and Pringle, but I'm suddenly feeling better about Jones/Jackson/etc. supporting Battle next year.

of course, now my fear is that Ed Dechelis may be one more good year from getting offers for a better job.

oh i know it. i used to hate it too, but when i went back and thought about how many teams are participating in ncaa d-i basketball, i realized that the NIT is not a joke like people think it is.

i'm not saying that penn st could've won the national championship, but the NIT title game pitted a team that beat michigan st, purdue, michigan, minnesota and illinois twice against a team that beat providence, arizona st, oklahoma st, washington st, aTm, kansas and texas. they aren't great teams but they're pretty good.

Yeah, the NIT is basically a tournament of potential cinderellas. Teams barely good enough to make the tournament and perhaps make a run in it, but who don't get the opportunity.

It's fun.

Glad PSU won, but I didn't get to see the celebration because my GD DVR cut out with a minute left in the game.

Don't worry, you didn't miss anything. As soon as the clock hit "00:00" ESPN went right to the 3pt/dunk contest. They didn't spend any extra time on postgame.
