where does he go now? i've got a draft in a couple days and i have no idea what to think of him. i'm tempted to just assume he'll go too early and write him off, but this could be an amazing value pick in some drafts.

well?

Still first round, I'd think. 10 weeks is about a month and a half of the season, right? I'd probably drop him a couple spots (behind Pujols, Wright, Reyes, maybe Sizemore, Cabrera). But if I have the 10-12th pick and he's on the board, I'm taking him.

2nd round at the least. The loss of 1 1/2 months of Arod production is enough to drop him out of the first round. Add in its a hip injury that could easily affect his swing once he's back and I would probably avoid him unless he really falls.

I'm trying to figure out what it would take to trade for him. I figure people will hear 10 weeks, and assume he's out for 2.5 months. Also the guy who has him is an older guy and probably thinks he'll suck due to roids.

If its a keeper league then that changes everything. If you draft Arod early then you are counting on him carrying you in the second half. That can be a good strategy but considering Arod's worst month is September its not really a sound idea. You don't want to draft a guy to carry your team down the stretch who historically is bad in the last month.

In general my draft strategy is to avoid likely injury issues. I put a stronger than most emphasis on health and in general over all fantasy sports I win half my leagues. I rarely miss playoffs so I will stick with my strategy because it works.

oh man i loved it last year when everyone panicked about Pujols' elbow

I'm almost embarrassed to say how low he fell in my draft. Everyone was talking about how he wouldn't last more than a few weeks and avoided him like the plague.

This is why you set drafts as late as possible. I'm not picking him in the first round of my draft as the information stands right now. 2nd I'm strongly thinking about it. 3rd, I do it without thinking.

In the first round I always try to target a stud that is going to carry me throughout the season.

Every year Albert Pujols is suffering from some sort of nagging injury that might either put him on the DL or hinder his performance and it never does. Didn't he have plantar fasciitis 3 or 4 years ago? Isn't that would ended McGwires career? He ended up stealing 16 bases the next year after it was known that he had this foot injury

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but each year he has some sort of injury that's going to halt his production or slow him down a notch and it doesn't. Has anyone ever thought that maybe these are just fake reports released by the Cardinals so other teams think it's okay to pitch to him, otherwise he'd just get the Barry Bonds treatment?

Does that sound ridiculous? Yes... but every time I hear about a potentially damaging offseason Albert Pujols injury, I call B.S., and sure enough each year, he's MVP caliber. Why is that?

For the record, I know it's not true and this sounds remarkably stupid, but it ticks me off to hear people act like Pujols' reign of terror is coming to an end with an injury that no one could've ever noticed form the way he played and produced. Always in the offseason, and always referencing the season before when he was playing with the injury and the next one could be a huge down year. Really? An injured elbow in a season where he put up a .357 average and 37 home runs.

Yeah, okay. Sure.

I don't think people were ever afraid of the injury hurting Pujols' production. They were afraid of him getting hurt and missing time. TJS was widely speculated.

Come on. You can take a couple other guys at 2 that have roughly the same chance of matching or exceeding the value of a healthy ARod. Almost anyone drafted in the first round will put up big numbers (barring injury, complete collapse, etc). Who you take with the 2nd pick would primarily be driven by your draft strategy.

I don't know, if there is still a guy like Arod left in the second round (barring it being like a 10 player league) I would most definitely take him, especially if he's healthy. Even on a 'down' year for him (like last year) he still put up 35HR and 100+RBI with a great OBP.

I think dexter was saying he wouldn't take ARod with the 2nd pick, even if healthy, not the 2nd round.

Thank you Arod for getting hurt. I now have an offense that will feature ARod and Pujols (from mid May on) in my 12 team money league. And once Wieters gets called up June 1st, I'll really get rolling.

I got at draft in about an hour. Keeper head-to-head league but you can't keep top 3 picks. I'm at 11 of 12 teams. If Arod is on the board, I'm taking him @ 11. I would wait til it comes back around at 14, but the guy who picks after me is a huge Yankees fan, and would most certainly take him.

I figure among the top 10 will be (Hamilton and Longoria are keepers): Hanley, Pujols, Reyes, Wright, Sizemore, Teixeira, Howard, Braun, and Santana. In addition one of Utley, Rollins, Cabrera, Beltran, Holliday will be gone. So, I'll probably have my choice of 2 of those guys or Arod and 1 of those guys.

He was a keeper. I ended up with Arod and Holliday. Pretty happy w/ my team actually.

C- V Martinez

1B- A Gonzalez

2B- Derosa

SS- Drew

3B- Arod/Cantu til ARod comes back

OF- BJ Upton (keeper)

OF- Holliday

OF- Bradley

U- Ortiz

SP- Halladay (keeper), Lester, Dempster, J Johnson, J Sanchez

RP- Marmol, Devine.

Figure when Arod comes back, I'll try to trade Papi for a 2B and SP and play Cantu at U.
