The Cubs are scouting Oakland shortstop Bobby Crosby, who suddenly is expendable after the A's signed Orlando Cabrera to play short. The problem is Crosby makes $5.2 million, well above his market value, especially for the utility role he would fill on the Cubs

Maybe if the A's eat some cash? He's an awful hitter.

He's not left handed so it doesn't even matter.

I really hate replies like this. I mean seriously. Enough with the left handed comments, it's not funny.

But anyway, I looked up his three-year average away stats, just because I was curious. 611 OPS.

Why? The Cubs have a fetish for lefties.

So lets repeat it 400 times.

Wow, don't get your panties in a wad. The cubs have added 5 hitters this offseason to their active roster and all 5 have been lefties.

Without performing a search would it be OK if I said I'd like to pass because he sucks or has that dead horse been beat as well?

Look, I'm just saying, the left handed sarcasm is old. And Bobby Crosby sucks because he's Bobby Crosby.

That's fine, I've only seen it referenced once but I guess you've combed through a lot more threads than me.

And I wasn't being sarcastic. I literally think Hendry would pass on him simply because he's not left-handed. I think it has gotten to that stage.

Nobody is gonna take Crosby unless the A's eat almost all of his salary, in this market. I know this guy had potential at one point, but he's been really bad the last three years. I wonder if the Cubs were looking at him as a back up infielder option, before they signed Corey Koskie. Because right now it doesn't seem like there's room for anybody else. Unless they don't really think Koskie will be able to come back. We also have Luis Rivas, who was pretty much Bobby Crosby from 01-05.

I wonder if Luis Vizcaino(3.5m salary in 09, and 500,000 buy out at end of the season), with average to below prospect for Crosby(5.5m salary in 09) and 500,000 in cash would work. Thats the only way I could see a trade getting done, unless the A's would eat 4-4.5m of his salary. But I don't see the A's having much interest in Vizcaino with their bullpen pretty full right now.

Can Crosby even play 3B, 2B, 1B, LF or RF? I know obviously he can't/won' play all of those positions, but if Crosby would get a spot on our roster he would at least have to be able to play half of those positions. Unless we get the A's to take $4+ mil. I don't have much interest and I'd rather we fill out our bench spot(s) with Hinske, Fox, Rivas, or Hoffpauir. The only thing Crosby brings is the fact he can at least be a real backup SS while Miles and Fontenot are both below average there, along with Theriot being average/below average out there almost everyday.

Crosby is terrible and we should want no part of him. That being said, Vicaino plus a prospect is really overpaying for Crosby. The A's will definitely have to eat 4-4.5 million unless they take back a really bad contract (won't happen).

If we wanted an offensively inept backup middle infielder, we never should have parted with Ronny Cedeno, or Cesar Izturis or Jose Macias or Neifi Perez or Rey Ordonez.

Id just assume give Koskie or Rivas a chance. Even if Crosby was a slight step up from any of the afore mentioned, Beane isnt going to part with him for nothing, so this is a bad idea waiting to happen.
