Honestly don't know how I feel about this... I don't think Schilling is going to be very effective anymore. I would love to be proven wrong, though.

That's it. What's the point of having a Shilling if he's just going to put up a 5 ERA? His aura doesn't get to pitch.

why would he put up a 5 era? he's done that once since he became a starter in 1990. which was in 2005, when he two thirds of the games he pitched in came out of the pen. that was the only year since 94 his era has been over FOUR. really, there's zero reason to assume that he won't be effective. it's just a question of is he healthy?

I can think of at least two reasons why he won't be effective:

1. He's really old.

2. He hasn't pitched in quite a while.

both of those are valid concerns. but i don't think it's logical just to ASSUME that he's going to suck.

I'll take a Cubs WS title via almost any means, but "Curt Schilling showing up and leading the team to a title" is near the absolute bottom of my preferred methods, right after "The Cubs win the World Series and I miss it because I'm in a coma."

I don't really have a "preferred" method.

Satan could be signed by the Cubs and lead us to a World Series title and I'd cry tears of joy.

I don't want AJ Eyechart anywhere near this team.

I've been holding a grudge against this guy for 10 years now after his remarks blasting the CUBS for ruining Kerry Wood in 1998. His assertion that the CUBS overused Kerry in "all those complete games" just to break strikeout records was complete and utter garbage. The fact of the matter is, the CUBS babied Kerry in '98 like no other pitcher before or since. He had exactly 1 complete game in 1998, and only faced 9 batters all year when his pitch count was in excess of 109 pitches. Schilling is a blowhard who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

Pass.

The one flaw in that theory is that Mia Hamm is not good looking.

you heard it here folks: blowhard

Yeah. Can he still pitch though? That's the question. Nobody wants a blowhard who sucks. One that gets guys out though? Buy a pair of earplugs and pretend you're listening to every word.

Where is Schilling going to fit in the rotation after the Peavy trade is final?

He'll be rotated into Lake Michigan.

He will start when Harden goes on the DL.

We said the same thing about Jimmy Edmonds.

He's annoyed me with the Wood comments and the fact that he never beaned J.D. Drew after saying he would for not signing with the Phillies because they wouldn't give him a $10mil signing bonus out of college.

That said if he has anything left, I think his swagger alone might be a big help to the team. Even if he doesn't start, I wouldn't be opposed to looking at him out of the bullpen.

Which is perfect timing. He said he wouldn't be ready until the end of april or May and that will be about the time Harden goes on the DL
