He puts the play in plays

wut?

He was in the top 10 in a lot offensive categories last year, Fontenot said.

okay, do you really need to quote a teammate on his statistics? can't you just go and look them up yourself?

It would be great to hit .350, but I am focused on other things.

ryan, if you can really hit .350 just by focusing on doing that, then by all means please do it.

"I felt like I was leadoff a lot anyway (in the No. 2 spot) because (Soriano) is so aggressive up there, Theriot said. Hell go after a pitch early, so I had to take some pitches so DLee (Derrek Lee) and Aramis (Ramirez) could see the pitches. It's just another example of Theriot's old-school ways. He has always been that guy, said Fontenot, his teammate since their days at Louisiana State. He could play in any era."

was this article formatted by a four year-old? Hell instead of He'll? quotes from two people in the same paragraph? the theriot quote doesn't even have an end quote and fontenot's doesn't have a begin quote. it's friggin terrible.

I'd like to think that the proper grammar and journalistic talent was lost somewhere in the translation between the AP article and the posting of it on the Tribune website.

If not... then someone at AP needs to get fired for writing that drivel, and someone at the Tribune needs to get fired for thinking it would be a-ok to post it on their website

Piniella said with spring training schedule being altered because of the WBC that most of the big-league starters wont get into games until the second week to keep them on similar schedule as years past.

Ugh...

I can't believe this is the AP. I searched google news and found no reference to the original AP article at all.

This has got to be the Trib. The Fort Mills Times reprinted it though -- guess they don't care much about fact checking.

Here's what Google says before any of the results:

Did you mean: Ryan Theriot

8-)

This "story" is particularly funny in light of the fact that yesterday morning's Sullivan piece read "Paul Bako recalls Cub's 2004 Collaspe". It was eventually corrected. Quite a streak their editors are putting together, though. I await Monday's hard-hitting Chicago Cubes (sic) analysis.

it's the AP's fault. All that stuff is in the actual story, which has no byline.

The suggested headline on the story is "Cubs' Ron Theriot is an old-fashioned shortstop." I imagine the trib just has a system that puts all AP stories about the Cubs online, and no one checked it.

It seriously reads like a first-year journalism student wrote it.

That article looks like it was written by one of the idiots in my class. "He puts the play in plays"? What does that even mean?

It means that when he makes a play, it stays played a long time.

How does the writer of that get a job with the AP?

AP jobs aren't really all that great or prestigious.

Jesus, you are always a killjoy.

Your title should be "Negative Nancy."

I apologize.

AP jobs are the pinnacle of the profession and all the best writers fight for them.

I know they aren't but someone with that writing talent wouldn't get a job at Podunk Paper let alone the AP.

I think this is more accurate.
