i'm hating manny more and more every day. i truly hope that the dodgers pull the offer and walk away for good. no one else seems interested in manny's services. it would be hilarious to watch him have to sign a small deal, say 10 million, in a couple months because no one else will pay him more than that.

You hate a guy for negotiating in what he believes are his best interests? Commie.

Manny specifically requested a 4 year deal. If they won't give 1 to him, well, the Dodgers need Manny more than Manny needs the Dodgers. Sucks to be the Dodgers.

I wonder if he'd accept something along the lines of 4/60? Its only 15 per year but it gives him the four years he wants. I really do wonder if it has anything at all to do with the money.

Well Manny is not getting a 4 yr deal. Any team would be foolish to give him that. However, he does have the choice to retire or stay at home if he wants.

i hate him for continuing to refuse very, very generous offers when no other teams are interested in him (at least publicly), and when people all across baseball are taking less money this offseason.

but hey, that's just manny being manny. and he's as cool as the other side of the pillow. booyeah.

He feels like he can play for 4 more years and he doesn't want to go through free agency again after this year. Is this really hard to comprehend?

i'm not so sure about that. at this point not many teams have the money left and a void in LF/DH, and nobody else has showed interest in manny like the dodgers have. i'd say they need each other.

and we're already in spring training and NO ONE is willing to give him 4 years, so he's either going to have to back off those demands or play for zero more years. is that really that hard for you to comprehend?

Maybe he shouldn't have painted himself as a clubhouse cancer who sulked and didn't play his hardest in order to force a trade from the team he signed his last long term deal with.

Teams need him more than he needs the money. He'll just wait it out.

You having a different assessment of the market for his services on his job market is light-years away from justification for hating him.

he's going to be waiting for awhile. there's no way he gets a four year deal. no way.

I read on Dodgerblues that some of the money was deferred, and he'd only be making 10 mil the next two seasons in the deal he rejected yesterday, and that's why he rejected it. Not sure how true that is, seems kind of unlikely. But, if it is true, it would be more understandable why he declined it.

Yeah. Poor guy. How can one reasonably expect to live any sort of comfortably on a lousy $10 million a year? I wonder if he can qualify for welfare on that sort of pay.

So you'll be giving back a large portion of your lifestyle to bring you down to the world average?

people are taking pay cuts all across the country. some are taking reductions on their salary to remain employed (as opposed to being laid off) and others that aren't employed are taking lower salaries to get a job. it's happening in baseball, it's happening to white collar workers and it's happening to blue collar workers.

this isn't exactly rocket science here.

If $10 million is "world average", then I need to move.

Seriously. Does this guy wipe his butt with $100 bills? Does he burn money in his fireplace to keep warm at night? Does he bathe in Cristal? What kind of lifestyle could he have that would be signifcantly hampered on $10 million a year?

You live a lifestyle that 3 billion people in this world would cut off a toe to have. So shut up with the class hating on the guy who's a little richer.

A LITTLE richer? I appreciate the fact that you think I'm loaded, but I hate to break it to you. I'm not.

Yes. I have it pretty well. You don't hear me complaining about mine. But when you're talking about tens of millions a year, enough for anyone on this planet to live in the most extreme luxury, as compared to someone like me who has just enough to pay his mortgage and other bills each month and maybe put a little away for retirement if things go well, I have a hard time sympathizing.

I have it better than a good deal of people right now. I bet those people wouldn't feel sorry for me if I went to apply for a job and "only" could find one that pays $15 an hour instead of $20 an hour with 4 weeks vacation and free insurance.

People are taking pay cuts because they need the money. Manny isn't desperate for the money.

The way I look at is if Manny wants to risk not having a job in order to try to get the most money he can, then why shouldn't he? He hasn't come out and said the Spreewell line of "need more money to feed my family" or anything like that. He's just looking at investing and making a huge risk. He could get a high rate of return on it (if they give him more years) or he could lose it all.

That doesn't mean I'm on Manny's side here. But he's doing the same thing as the club is. They both are offering contracts that will get them the maximum return on their investment. Neither side needs sympathy..it's simply business.

You can afford to own a house? Well, you just lost my sympathy.

But regardless, you are I are a lot closer to Manny Ramirez than we are to the bottom half of the world.

Maybe someone should tell Coletti that his team is by far the frontrunners for their divison, and if need be, they should just wait for the deadline for another slugger to become available. For one, I get the feeling that Adam Dunn won't be in Washington past July.

Disagree. They have a *really* big hole in LF. Losing a half-season of a potentially great left-fielder is losing a lot of wins.

Don't ever say that to Latrell Sprewell

IT'S ABOUT THE YEARS, NOT THE MONEY

as someone mentioned earlier, it's his own fault that he can't get a long-term deal. if he hadn't basically quit on the red sox he likely would've had teams that would give him 4 years, since he obviously can still hit. but he flaked out to get traded, which worked, but now nobody wants to make a long-term commitment to a guy who might just decide at some point that he doesn't want to be there.
