...move Soriano back to 2nd base. Win World Series.

I know, Imma check into the mental institution.

You missed a step titled "Have MLB change rules so that defense does not have to cleanly field batted balls to have them recorded as outs."

Soriano 2B

Bradley CF

Manny RF

Dunn LF

Ramirez 3B

Soto C

Lee 1B

Fukudome SS (he was drafted there so you know he can play it at a major league level)

Pitcher

I was going to suggest some ridiculously awesome hitter take the mound on the assumption that it shouldn't take very good pitching with that lineup. Then I realized, we already have Zambrano.

Was Soriano that much of a butcher at 2nd?

According to fangraphs, his be giving back roughly 1/4 of his offensive value if he could play 2b back to his old standards, and he's lost a few steps since then so he'd be even worse.

I know errors aren't the end all be all, and there are certainly other things to take into consideration when determining if someone is/isn't a good fielder. But from 2001-2005 when Soriano was a full time 2B with NYY/TEX he had 19, 23, 19, 23 and 21 errors. When a guy is making that many errors it is pretty clear he is a below average fielder, and 2B is not like the OF where Soriano can make up for the misreads/bad jumps with an excellent arm. I really don't want to go down that road..

In only partial jest, why couldn't we move Sori to CF?? He was signed to play that spot. He's a professional MLB player and should be able to make the adjustment.

Fukudome makes too much $$$ to be benched

It's not about adjustments, it's about raw ability. Soriano is no longer anywhere near fast enough to cover that sort of ground.

What? Speed has nothing to do with it, is it your belief that Reed Johnson is faster than Soriano?

Let me rephrase: Soriano is no longer anywhere near fast enough to cover CF the way he used to, making up for his problems with reaction time and route-taking.

(and Reed Johnson is a really bad defensive CFer)

He's okayish, as was Soriano in his brief stint.
