this "leadoff is not a position" stuff has got to stop

everyone gets it by now. you can't even call someone a leadoff hitter anymore without hearing "leadoff isnt a position"

neither can Soriano. What's your point?

Leadoff is Soriano's best position because that is where he is best suited. Leadoff is not where Miles is best suited. That's my point.

...position in the batting order. Every manager positions his batting order a certain way.

Can we get back to something we all agree on - Murph knows about as much about baseball as I do.

If people keep foolishly talking about it like a position, that's their fault.

It's still ridiculous to suggest it's where he's best suited for. It's not a position. He is a batter, where the manager chooses to hit him does not make that player that type of hitter. Similarly, just because a manager chooses to play a guy in multiple positions it does not mean that guy has value at multiple positions.

Soriano has pretty much proven that he can't hit in the middle of the order because he isn't disciplined enough. Soriano's value decreases once he is put in the middle of the order because people in the middle of the order are pitched differently.

Forgot a few tidbits

-He also said that Pie is a goner, and good riddence.

-Gathright is a signifacant upgrade over Pie as a 25th man(apparently he doesnt know the meaning of floor vs. ceiling)

-He really seems to dislike Pie

-If we do fail to get Bradley, which he highly doubts, we'll go after "Aaron" Dunn, and if that falls through, wed re explore Teahen or Dejesus with the Royals.

So his discipline isn't a problem at leadoff?

I dont think that problm is him as a leadoff hitter, its the fact that his bat would be more valuable in another spot, more of an RBI position.

Batting DLee first would prevent him from breaking the record for most dp's in a season.

Soriano's power numbers and low obp suggest he should probably be batting sixth.(we know that'll never happen though, because his contract numbers suggest he can hit wearever he wants).

If Aaron Miles is such a great leadoff hitter, why are the Cards letting him go ?

Wow I'm so glad I've never listened to the Score.

So let me get this straight

- The Cubs can't win a title with an .800-.850 OPS 2B

- Aaron Miles is a good leadoff hitter

Yeah, that's perfectly reasonable.

Not as much. He is pitched differently; he isn't given as many fastballs. This is the reason why he has failed to put up a good average when Lou, or anyone else, has slid him down in the order. Granted, we don't have a large sample size, but I am not sure we need one.

Most of his sports related thoughts are ass-backwards.

He's the Jim Hendry of sports radio?

No, more like the John Paxson of sprts radio. At least Hendry has produce quality ML players on the Cubs.

Uh, there's a pretty good "NHL" hockey team in town now. Playing a pretty big game tommorrow afternoon.
