From what I gather, the hanging sox hat is an alternate hat. If you go to MLB Shop, they list that hat as the Red Sox alternate cap. I am not so sure that they are doing away with the classic B that they have used for a long time now.

Yep, but likely by the MLB and not directly by the BoSox. My understanding is sales from merchandise belongs to the MLB, not the specific teams, and the proceeds from all merchandise is split evenly among all teams.

IIRC, it depends on where they are sold. At the ballpark, the team keeps it. From a store or online, it's put into a fund spread equally among all teams.
