tebow throws one of the worst balls i've ever seen...I'm pretty sure i could throw a prettier pass than him and i never played football, outside of a pick-up game.

doesn't really add to the discussion, just throwing that out there.

well you threw that out there pretty well for someone who has only played pick-up games

is anyone else surprised that Meph tells everyone that THEIR method of evaluating players is wrong, yet never gives a better method?

no, me neither

Unless Bradford bolts for the NFL, each of these guys will be in the same room same time next year.

So if your tired of splitting hairs between Bradford, McCoy and Tebow you'll get another chance to hear the arguments all over again.

Any of these 3 are deserving of the Heisman. I dont think i could of ever said that before about the all invitees in years past.

I agree...You can find downsides for all of them, but that's true that all 3 definitely deserve to be there

If Bradford does bolt (and Stafford as well), it'll be interesting to see who the Lions take.

I have to think Detroit (even being Detroit) will have to take a QB. If Bradford and Stafford are both available, it'd be interesting to see their choice.

Mike Leach is pretty pissed that Graham Harrell wasn't invited to NYC.

By the way is Leach making a fuss so much when Harrell has already said Leach will probably leave this year?

Can someone name me some defensive players that should be invited if the Heisman truly was an award for best college player?

I'd think defensive players of the year would be a good place to start:

ACC - Mark Herzlich, LB BC - 105 tackles, 11 TFL, 3 sacks, 6 INT for 121 yds

B12 - Brian Orakpo, DE Texas - 40 tackles, 18 TFL, 10.5 sacks, 0 INT

SEC - Eric Berry, S Tennessee - 72 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 7 INT for 265 yds

BE - Scott McKillop, LB Pitt - 126 tackles, 16.5 TFL, 4 sacks, 1 INT for 18 yds

P10 - Rey Maualuga, LB USC - 73 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 INT for 48 yds

B10 - James Laurinaitis, LB Ohio St - 121 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 4 sacks, 2 INT for 0 yds

Obviously not all of them would be invited. If any were to go this year, I'd probably be in favor of one or two of Berry, Herzlich and McKillop. None should win it this year, though.

I wish defensive players and offensive linemen would get more consideration for the award.

As do I. They're not in as glamorous a spot as the offensive players, though.

Scott McKillop winning the Heisman won't draw near the ratings and chatter that Tim Tebow or Sam Bradford winning the Heisman will.

I would respond, but I am too delusional.

That's what I would think since he has the better NFL tools than Bradford (thicker, stronger arm). I just wondered if Bradford's superior production this year might sway a team.

Interestingly, Stafford is 6'3 and Bradford is 6'4. I thought Stafford was taller by an inch or two.

Eric Berry is probably the best defensive player in the country. And he's still a sophomore.

McCoy should win because he punts and passes.

Actually the reason I think he should win is because his passing stats are comparable to Bradford's. Not as many yards and TD's but also not as many attempts. Plus he has completed almost 78% of his passes. Rushing wise he is the best of the bunch. He has more yards than Tebow, a much better average and only 2 fewer TD's.

So totals matter for production?

They dont.

Let's see Colt has a high completion percentage because of two reasons. One, half of his passes go for less than five yards. Two, no one plays pass defense in the Big XII and stopped around 2002 or so.

This sounds like a different version of that other poster's "The offense is just bunch of quick slant routes" argument. If it was so easy to just throw the ball five yards and complete 77.6 percent of your passes, why hasn't anyone done it before this year? Why is the old completion percentage record 73.6 percent?

someone get HCF to translate

Try it now, that's my guess.

You're probably right - and he's a true sophomore, so Tennessee gets him for one more year (at least ).

He might be deserving to be invited next year (assuming he progresses) and if by some longshot prayer he's here his senior year, he should be the first defensive player since Charles Woodson to get serious consideration.

Is that 3 Big 10 defensive player of the year awards in a row for Laurinaitis?

Most overrated linebacker I've ever seen.

His stats are better than Maualuga. Who should have gotten it over Laurinaitis?

Posted
Bradford stats are seriously inflated by very poor defenses in the Big 12 + Bob Stoops desire to run up the score in every single game. The Sec has far better defenses + Tebow is usually out of the game in the 3rd or 4th quarter and has no real shot to pad his stats. I would be fine with either Tebow or Mccoy winning the heisman I don't think Bradford deserves it at all.

not to get all meph on you but until the missouri game we had been outscored in the 4th quarter and bradford had set on the bench for a total of 8 quarters.

Posted

and i'd vote for mccoy. i said it in another thread somewhere but texas doesn't have one offensive player that would start at ou. mccoy has been their whole offense.

i can't remember what other thing i was going to argue, but it was probably about some stupid thing that meph said. notice how texas isn't in the title game and he's now officially off their bandwagon completely
