Bradford stats are seriously inflated by very poor defenses in the Big 12 + Bob Stoops desire to run up the score in every single game. The Sec has far better defenses + Tebow is usually out of the game in the 3rd or 4th quarter and has no real shot to pad his stats. I would be fine with either Tebow or Mccoy winning the heisman I don't think Bradford deserves it at all.

not to get all meph on you but until the missouri game we had been outscored in the 4th quarter and bradford had set on the bench for a total of 8 quarters.

OU runs up the score in the first quarter. It's pretty easy to put up big pass numbers in the Big XII, because the conference only allows 9 players to play defense.

Is that 3 Big 10 defensive player of the year awards in a row for Laurinaitis?

Most overrated linebacker I've ever seen.

His stats are better than Maualuga. Who should have gotten it over Laurinaitis?

IMO, Aaron Maybin (Penn State) and Vontae Davis (Illinois) are better than Laurinaitis.

I also think Maualuga is overrated (but he's better than Laurinaitis); I think Brian Cushing of USC is better than Maualuga.

Maybin is a Defensive End. Are you comparing linebackers or overall defensemen?

That's mainly because of the system. OSU's scheme funnels everything to him. Laurinaitis is great at making tackles 5-10 yards down the field but he doesn't shed blocks very well, isn't going to dominate at the point of attack, and isn't going to make tons of plays in the passing game.

He is not in the same universe as A.J. Hawk, Paul Pozlusny, or some other recent Big 10 linebackers.

Yeah, the original topic was about defensive players and conference DPOYs. Vontae Davis is a corner and Maybin is a DE and they are both superior players to Laurinaitis.

Pat Angerer (great last name BTW) of Iowa deserved it. He led the conference in interceptions and was tied for fifth in tackles. He's a linebacker so him having a lot of tackles isn't a bad thing like it would be for a cornerback.

If you are one to not factor in team performance heavily then Brit Miller of Illinois should get it. He led the conference in tackles and unlike most the other leaders he had a large majority of them solo rather than assist which I think gives him a bonus. He also had 6 sacks which is the most of anyone in the top 20 of tackles.

Either way you go Laurinaitis didn't truly deserve it and like most college awards won due to name.

I love me some Aaron Maybin. Sophomore, benches 315, runs a 4.5 40, and has a 41 inch vertical. AT DEFENSIVE END.

Thankfully Shonn won the Doak Walker award.

And when Herbstreit asked Tebow what kind of expression he wants his teammates to see when they look into his eyes, he said: "Determination, will to get it done, perserverence, and that I will not let us get in the end zone."

You could hear Kirk saying "huh?" inside his head.

I bow to the expertise of the posters more knowledgable in the quality of each defensive player, re: Laurinaitis.

And Maybin definitely sounds like a beast. He should be fun to watch.

Maybin will be a top 10 pick when he turns pro next season.

Too bad they aren't in the big ten :P

Interesting. I think I remember seeing him on a couple of mock drafts for 2010 that I've looked at.

Haven't paid that much attention to them yet, though.

and i'd vote for mccoy. i said it in another thread somewhere but texas doesn't have one offensive player that would start at ou. mccoy has been their whole offense.

i can't remember what other thing i was going to argue, but it was probably about some stupid thing that meph said. notice how texas isn't in the title game and he's now officially off their bandwagon completely

I hate to get back onto this topic, but it kind of pisses me off that this BCS nonsense has overshadowed a really good season by Texas. I didn't expect this going into the season, and I had them pegged for 3 losses. The secondary was really young, Colt had a sophomore slump, no standout runner and a few other things.

I'm sure none of you care, but I used most of my posts here so far to complain about the BCS and I thought it appropriate to give kudos to my alma mater for a much better season than I expected. It was a fun year.

Your not alone. Though expectations next year will be pretty high.

Yeah, we're only losing Orakpo and Dockery (Cosby?). That secondary will be a year older, Malcom Williams is starting to get some PT. I would have liked to have seen a RB step up. I'm not all that impressed with Whittaker, but I do like McGee a bit.

Next year and Gilbert's junior year should be good ones.

I see you live in Lewisville. Do you listen to the Ticket?

Malcom Williams has the potential to be a beast. Yeah Orakpo, Roy Miller, and Aaron Lewis will be big losses to the front line but they have guys to step in already. Garrett Gilbert should be awesome.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't. Even if McCoy was injured they can always play Chiles at QB. They still need to find a bigger role for him next season as well.

I'd like to see Colt and Chiles in the backfield at the same time a few plays per game next season.

Also, in case you didn't already know, Muschamp has shot down the Auburn rumors.

ESPN Classic is having Nissan Heisman Week. Right now they're showing last years Florida vs Auburn game for Tim Tebow. The Gators lost that game 20-17. It's the only game of his career where had a 1:1 TD to INT ratio. It was the second lowest yardage output he had last season.
