I love this time of year, this guy is just driving up traffic to his site.

I doubt it, as Baseball Prospectus has plenty of traffic regardless. He's just not very good at reporting rumors.

How could he report it differently?

Responsibly... as in not posting the idiotic musings of a front office type from another organization with no real information.

If we trade Cedeno + Mark Derosa who would back up the MI if Fontenot or Theriot got hurt or was ineffective?

Include him going to Philly with DeRo and get back Utley. =P~

Maybe throw in Theriot too and get Rollins.

Okay, I'll stop dreaming now...

That's ridiculous, he said a crazy rumor - kind of implies it likely has no merit doesn't it? I guess some people have fun with these rumors while others seem to be a bit too serious about it.

As much as I believe this rumor has 0% credibility, and as much as I like Zambrano as a Cub, I would have no qualms trading him to another team if it brought back a big impact bat

We're talking about baseball rumors, not something important. If the guy says he's heard crazy rumors that Zambrano might be traded he's not exactly leaking national security information.

Agreed. I love the guy, but assuming we can't have everything, and assuming we get Peavy, I'd rather have the bat than Z.

I can see Hendry at the blackjack tables at 4 am with a gin and tonic in one hand, a rack of lamb in the other, tossing in 4 times the minimum bet every hand, blathering out "Z? Yeahhhh sure, I'll deal anybody, I'm Jim effing Hendry."

Agreed and I wouldn't want to lose "Z" bat

Not to ruin the fun, but Z has a full NTC. He isn't going anywhere.

Why do people still pretend like that means guys can't be traded? If we wanted to trade him, the receiving team would have to convince him to waive it, sure, and it would impact what we got back, but it happens quite a bit. Pretending like a guy absolutely won't be traded because of an NTC is simply ignoring history. It's a lot more common for guys with NTCs to waive them in exchange for something (more money, option picked up, etc) than it is for guys to stand fast and refuse to be traded to any other club out there. Look at Peavy...we're about to get him only BECAUSE he has a NTC. If he didn't have an NTC, we wouldn't be in the conversation.

Which is exactly why it's pointless to discuss guys with NTCs in hypothetical trade scenarios (well, even more pointless than guys who don't have NTCs).
