Week 15: Saints (7-6) @ Bears (7-6) 7:15 PM NFLN/WPWR LOCAL

Don't let this go to the 2nd page. The season comes down to tonight (and probably every week hereafter).

We don't have a great shot at the playoffs even with a win tonight, but I'm still getting nervous as losing will give us like a 2% chance (vs. like 20% right now and 35% if we win)

edit: SportsClubStats has it like this:

Right now: 13.4%

If we go 3-0 the rest of the year: 64.5%

If we go 2-1 the rest of the year: 13.6%

If we go 1-2 or worse the rest of the year: Eliminated

Agreed. But things can change a lot by the end of the weekend. Dallas and Atlanta are both favored by less than 3 at home against playoff likely teams. Minnesota is a 2.5 underdog on the road vs. a playoff team. If the Giants, Cards, and Bucs win (which is very conceivable), the Bears odds will go up further as they move technically closer to the division lead and create at least a 3-way tie with ATL and Dallas, which the Bears would actually own the 3-way tiebreaker at that point.

Of course, they would still be behind the Eagles and Skins if they win, but they play each other next week to take care of that.

To my mind, the Bears don't really deserve to make the playoffs given their inconsistencies and struggles -- many of which were manifestly obvious to frequent posters of the Bears threads. However, while their chances may be slim and many think they may not deserve, all they need to do is worry about winning; the rest will sort itself out. Just win.

And don't squib kick ever again (I'm still bitter about that ATL game).

According to SportsClubStats, their odds are 13.4% right now.

If they win tonight, their odds go up to 23.5%

If the Vikings lose on Sunday as well, their odds go up to 30.7%

If the Cowboys lose on Sunday as well, their odds go to 31.7%

If the Falcons lose on Sunday as well, their odds go up to 32.2%

If the Eagles lose on Sunday as well, their odds go up to 32.8%

If the Panthers lose..........33.1%

If the Redskins lose..........33.4%

Also, some breaking bad news for the Bears:

Breaking News. ESPNNews is reporting that US direct court judge rule in favor of the 5 players suspended for violating NFL Drug Pollicy on steriods and related substances.

The matter apparently won't be resolved until after the playoffs.

On another note, doesn't this set a bad precedent? I mean - if the court keeps going with this, they are opening the NFL up to litigation every single time a player gets suspended, right?

Yeah I guess you have a point, but this was obviously a unique case. I don't think most courts are going to hold up suspensions for an illegal steroid. The worst that will come out of this is that the NFL might have a more difficult time enforcing diuretic related suspensions.

Does it really shock anybody that a judge in Minnesota would rule in favor of the 2 Vikings players, now allowing them to play the rest of the season.... Not surprising at all

Don't forget about the 2/3 Saints players that "play" the Bears tonight too.

I don't think there's very much unique about this case. It's still a known banned substance, diuretic or not. If the courts can overturn this, it throws their entire drug policy into question. Now the burden of knowing what is in a supplement would seem to be the league's responsibility, not the players. And that makes no sense to me.

Or -- if you can find a supplement that likes to slip in "special" ingredients without putting them on the label, now guess what? You can argue you didn't know, and the league can't suspend you. And who's to say you knew, if it wasn't on the label? After all, it wasn't on StarCaps' label, and the Williams bros got off.

Bad precedent.

Posted
The difference is they think they have a case because the NFL's drug hotline told some of those players that it was acceptable to use this Starcaps substance. The NFL's stance has always been you are ultimately responsible for what you put in your body, so it shouldn't matter what the hotline says. It's not just a cut and dry case involving players testing positing for starcaps and then complaining about it.
