Oh. I thought you were attempting to say he's whiny like Marquis.

Can't see putting Theriot and Howry in that category together at all.

if you can unload his whole contract, have a blast. but eating $4M of it would be stupid; you'd only be saving $5.5M and marquis is worth at least that much as a back of the decent rotation starter who stays healthy.

If that's what it takes to insert Marquis in a trade for someone instead of Marshall, it's a sacrifice I'm gladly willing to make. I'd much rather indirectly pay Marshall 4 million than Marquis 9 million.

fair point, though i'm dubious that one year of marquis at $5-6M has much value to anybody.

The man is a league-average starting pitcher.0

Truffle, your two posts in this quote seem contradictory to me. You'd rather keep him than pay him to play elsewhere because he's got some value but you don't think he's got much value to anybody at $5-6m.

no, it's that i don't see a 30 year old pitcher with rumored attitude problems fetching much in the trade market, especially from a go-nowhere team like some of the ones that have been rumored to be in the bidding.

No.

While Marquis is serviceable as a 5th starter, he's not even the best option on his own team. Sean Marshall should have been the starter from day one last year given his 07 performance and propensity to improve as a young starter. Furthermore, he has generally been able to go longer in his outings as well as provide more consistency from one start to the next.

I'd have no problems keeping Marquis as an insurance policy given the injury history of some of our starters. However if Guzman is ready, and or Hill can make a comeback, then just what is his value to this team?? Paying a player that should be in long relief 3 million a season is ludicrous if you have better options.
