I can't handle this rollercoaster of emotion anymore! ](*,)

What rollercoaster? We're at the same place we were 3 hours ago when everyone was excited

We get a report that says it's very close, then one that says it's not close at all, and it happens over and over and over. There's another one up on MLB Rumors that says it's very close again.

Try not taking all of these conflicting reports at face value.

all that matters right now is that towers himself said there was a deal on the table. what some writers talk about means nothing, unless you think towers was lying...which makes no sense.

Eventually it will get done. It's 60 some days before pitchers and catchers report so the Cubs have time.

I'd rather not have this thread go on for 400 pages.

This board will have gone up in flames long before this thing hits 400.

What did the Brian Roberts thread end up at?

Rehash/update per Rotoworld:

One source close to GM Jim Hendry characterized the Cubs as "very close" to completing a deal for Jake Peavy.

Cubs and Orioles sources told the Chicago Sun-Times that those two teams have agreed to a swap of Garrett Olson and Felix Pie, contingent on a Peavy deal. Olson would then go to San Diego. The Sun-Times also believes the Phillies are in the deal, but isn't sure the pieces are finalized there. Dec. 9 - 2:28 am et

Is anyone else feeling that this seems to be a ton to give up for Peavy?

"The new owner would need to approve the addition of Peavy, who is owed $63 million."

That was from Rosenthal's column. How could this deal get done this week unless if this is true?

This was proclaimed false a while ago by Bruce.

Yea. Nice attitude.

I have extermely limited time online and I'm going to spend it reading over 64 pages so I don't have to risk offending posters who apparently are privy to every fact on this subject.

You guys take yourselves waaaaay too seriously. This is a game. Lighten up.

Now that mlb.com is posting articles like this, you know its getting close. Sites like rotoworld and mlbtraderumors will post anything they hear from anyone, but mlb wont unless theres at least some reliable source.

Anyway, by all accounts, it seems like the Pads know what they want and its all available, so the only obstacles now are Hendry and our TBD owner. Make it happen Jim. Make it happen.

If the Cubs give up Marquis AND Derosa, could they afford Peavy, Furcal and Bradley? Peavy's salary basically = Derosa and Marquis, assuming the Cubs pay $4M to whoever takes Marquis.

If not, do the Cubs still have enough talent to get a cheap RF like Hermida?

If not, does 2b/SS become a priority over RF?

i think you think i was more annoyed at it than i really was. all i'm saying is that instead of making assumptions wouldn't it be easier to just glance back over the past few pages? you don't half to read everything, just scroll through each page until you see links. that's what i do. it takes like 2 seconds to find the articles where actual info is posted

I honestly dont believe that JH will be given the go ahead to spend any more money if this deal goes down. Maybe for something cheap, like Edmonds.

As for Hermida, I highly, highly doubt that we'll have the young talent to trade for anything of use after this deal goes down. If Pie, Marshall, Cedeno, Atkins, Castillo, and Vitters are all invloved as rumored, we're pretty much out of tradeable assets. Granted, we still have some prospects that would be interesting throw ins, but there will be nothing left as a main pieve to build around.

Welcome to NSBB. Everyone is privy to every fact on every subject. Thats why so many teams are pounding on our doors offering us GM jobs.

Fell asleep watching ESPN 2 last night and woke up to Mike and Mike saying Peavy to the Cubs and shot up in bed as they went to a commercial... the bottom update bar kept going through the commercial and it only said Hendry said they are "close".

But I guess it's a good thing ESPN and MLB.com are reporting it now?
