Pie (then Olsen), Marshall, Vitters, Cedeno, now supposedly DeRosa all for a guy that will be a factor in about 34 games next year? I want this trade to happen but damn, for a team behind the 8 ball like the Pods supposedly are, they sure are driving the price up quite a bit.

I wonder if we will see anything else come back this way besides Peavy and a newfound balanced payroll.

Who said it would be all those guys?

A) we dont really know what the package is

B) if you choose to believe one of the rumored packages, then you should choose to believe that adding derosa to the package would take out at least one of the other players.

i'd bet everyting i owned that they dont trade all 5 of those guys for peavy

How about Ramirez at SS? Then move Lee to 3rd and Hoffpauir can get his deserved spot at 1st.

this wont work. hoffpauir is in rf johnson cf, soriano lf, fukudome ss, cajuns 2b. we didnt sign milton bradley. we signed the parker brothers instead

What if Mattel wants in?

Wait...then we can move Zorich to linebacker and Urlacher can play his natural strong safety position / TE.

DeRosa and Marquis+cash is a pretty good start to work around. I dont think they would need more than 2 others.

10:31pm: MLB.com's Lyle Spencer says the Angels have not taken themselves out of the Peavy sweepstakes.

Also, Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune supplies more info. A third team would definitely be involved in a Cubs trade. DeRosa could wind up a Phillie, and Michael Wuertz is a new name of interest for the Padres. Peavy's agent Barry Axelrod said again that Peavy will require a full no-trade clause upon a deal. One more thing - Towers said trading Peavy could free up money for Trevor Hoffman.

That would be fantastic if we could use Wuertz as value in a trade rather than hear about Lou's doghouse again. First time I've seen his name brought up.

Nobody said it was all those guys, but it (based rumors, at least) appears that the package seems to be getting very favorable to the Pods in a market where they have very little leverage.

Sorry if this is a repost kids.

Rotoworld:

Padres GM Kevin Towers said there's essentially a Jake Peavy deal in place if the Cubs are willing to sign off on it.

"There's a package there that will satisfy us ... there's a deal in the way of names," said Towers, who carefully stated that no deal, even in principle, has been reached. Towers has been in contact with the Phillies and Orioles and may have agreements with both of them in what would be a three- or four-team Peavy deal. Towers did say there might be some "haggling" over the players the Padres would get in return from the Cubs. If the Orioles are involved, it's very likely that they'd get Felix Pie from the Cubs and send Garrett Olson to San Diego. Dec. 8 - 10:02 pm et

if the phils flip a pitcher, i would think it may mean no marshall.

How do you figure? We've been spending all this time trying to grab spare pitching to add to Marshall, as I understood it.

I say we slash the payroll, and put it all into research for a futuristic cloning machine, and then have the team be 23 Sotos, Z, and Harden.

I know we're supposedly closer to a deal than ever, but I have never been more confused about who could be involved in this deal than I am tonight. I suppose that will make it that much more exciting when it happens. :D

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this thread had grown 8 pages since I last checked, but then were once again dashed.

I retract my last post. We'll just clone 25 Sotos and be done with it.

Josh Vitters, Sean Marshall, J.A. Happ, and Ronny Cedeno seems like a very solid return for Jake Peavy.
