That deal makes a lot of sense from the White Sox side , there trying to shed payroll and get faster. Williams likes to get creative. Maybe he views Hart with his new cutter and closing down in Iowa last year as a replacment for Bobby Jenks. Dye ,Greene, Peavy , is a lot of money and no Left handed bats .

Well he said it's "an idea that has been bandied about" so it wouldn't be a surprise if those weren't the exact players changing teams, especially when you consider he heard from a guy who heard from someone else. A lot can be lost in translation.

Plus weren't there rumors that the White Sox want to dump Dye? Really he's only had 2 good season in the last 8 and a couple of mediocre ones. He's also about to turn 35. He's much more likely to be an .800 OPS guy next season than he is a .900 OPS guy, so it's not far fetched to think the Sox might want to dump him and get what they can.

Plus I don't get why you mention the fact that it seems more unrealistc because we'd get those 2 guys "and Greene?!?" when you go on to mention in the very next sentence that he has negative trade value.

It just seems unrealistic. Take Greene out of the trade and it still seems unrealistic. That sounds like a package the Cubs would be offering to get just Peavy.

You mean take Greene out and it seems more unrealistic. Again, you said yourself that he has negative value.

Blah, that comment was more or less hyperbole. He has some value even with his salary.

I believe it dexter. I'd imagine we'd sign Furcal and trade Greene though. Somewhere we'd need a LH'er.

But adding Dye would be sweet. He' still good. And talk about blockbuster. That's a HUGE deal.

I don't buy it, but not because of the reasons mentioned. I just can't imagine Hendry and Lou filling RF with a righty when they're so obsessed with a lefty.

By the way, I asked Churchill how confident his guy was that Peavy ends up with the Cubs and he said "5 percent confidence". He then said his guy told him he'll probably go to the Braves or Yankees.

Churchill's guy may put the Cubs at 5% chance of landing Peavy, but I put the Yankees less then that at getting Peavy. Which means it still comes down to the Braves or the Cubs. The Yankees are strictly used for negotiation tatics, imo.

I think it depends on CC.

Even so, I still don't see Peavy accepting a trade to the Yankees.

On the Cubs forum some guy was saying he heard an interview with Towers on the radio, and he talked about how Hendry is basically the only GM he is working with to get a deal done for Peavy, but the Cubs pitching prospects are terrible and so that is why the Cubs need to get a 3rd team involved so that they can get the pitching.

it will be so awesome when we land peavy and then have a couple of those "terrible" pitching prospects go all SOTO on tower's ass!

Towers- "we've had very little discussions with the Angels and Yankees"

It doesn't sound like either are currently on Peavy list. Towers also said Peavy mentioned three teams he would be willing to go to. I figure thats probably the Cubs, Braves and Dodgers. So with the Braves out for now, and Padres unwlling to trade Peavy to the Dodgers. It looks like the Cubs will be the only team in the Peavy talks for now. So Hendry has to find a third team to rip off for some prospects, that the Padres like. We just gotta hope Peavy doesn't decide to add anymore teams to his list. Then hope the Braves don't miss out on some free agents, and get back in the Peavy talks.

What do you guys think we could get for DeRosa? DeRosa is one of my favorite players but if we could get a piece that gets us closer to a Peavy trade I'd be open to it. I kind of want to see what Fontenot can do over a full season. If he can give us a .750-.800 OPS then that would be fine and would also give Lou another lefty in the lineup, which he's so obsessed with. Plus it would shed a little payroll and make things a little easier next season.

I wouldn't be against trading DeRosa, if it means getting Peavy. But I dunno if the Cubs trust Fontenot as a everyday player. Plus it would take away alot of their depth, and I dunno if Lou would want that. If they did trade DeRosa I think they would wanna add another infielder to either play SS(move Theriot to 2b), or replace DeRosa at 2b.

I think DeRosa should stay. I don't think he nets us in a trade what hes truly worth. Especially with out RF situation undetermined. His ability to play RF and give above average offense at 2b is valuable. If we sign Bradley, we have to rely on someone like DeRosa to play 50 games there, unless we want to risk Fukudome again. I don't think sacrificing our offense for Peavy is a good idea. If the Cubs are truly in win now mode, they need to be taking their trade chips from their minor league system or another's. I think we give Fontenot another year off the bench and then when DeRosa walks he can have the full time job.

The Padres arent going to want DeRosa. Nothing agaisnt DeRosa, but why would a rebuilding team trade one of the best pitchers in the game with 4 or 5 years left on his contract for super sub in the last year of his?

It's not about trading DeRosa to the Padres. It's about what DeRosa could bring from another team that we could, in turn, send to SD for Peavy.

That said, I don't think it's much.

Jake Peavy-S-Padres Nov. 17 - 10:04 pm et

Padres GM Kevin Towers revealed that he's currently only engaged with the Cubs in the Jake Peavy trade talks.

"It's really come down to one club now –- the Cubs," he said. "It's going to take awhile. They have a couple of players to pick from that we are interested in but anything with them is going to potentially involve a third team or fourth team. We're focusing only on them." Towers added that his conversations with the Yankees "were not substantial" and that he told GM Brian Cashman "until I get the go-ahead from Jake, I'm not going to" explore trade options with the Bombers.

Why must they torture us so? Why did we even trade Ceda, who a lot of teams would have been interested in for a 30 year old with 1 year left on his contract? If were going to do this, Josh Vitters will somehow be involved. Thats all fine and dandy, but 1 way or another, I need closure on this.

I think a Peavy trade leaves are farm pretty bare and with a win now additude hopefully the Cubs can add depth during free agency in areas because come deadline there isn't much to trade.
