There's a lot of question as to whether it would work in Hamilton.

You are talking about a metropolitan area roughly the same size as Springfield, Missouri or Akron, Ohio. And it'd be attempting to draw from a fan base that is already largely loyal to another team.

i'm sure people said the same thing about ottawa when that team was founded; people there were loyal to toronto and the french-speaking people in gatineau were loyal to the canadiens.

plus hamilton is less than 50 miles from toronto which is a huge metro area. and hockey is king in canada - if a city like raleigh or columbus or st. louis can support a hockey team then there's no question that a place like hamilton or quebec city could do so. the quebec remparts draw 11,000 a night for God's sakes.

5 of the top 9 teams in attendance are canadian; edmonton is the only team that's outside the top 9 and that's just because they have a smaller arena. basically every canadian team fills up their arena every night.

if i become king of the nhl, atlanta, nashville, miami will lose teams and they'll be relocated to seattle, hamilton and either quebec or winnipeg.

Anyone have any idea what Biron was doing? Just a terrible play.

biron has been awful this year; the team has been winning in spite of him. i'm tired of the revolving door in net just like everyone else, but i don't blame holmgren for looking around for goaltending help. at this point niittymaki might be the best option in-house and he's no better than average.

I'm with you on the losing teams. I'm just not sure those teams need to go anywhere rather than just disappear.

Ottawa is twice the size of Hamilton. Quebec City would probably be a little more viable (a little bit bigger, further from another major city, the fierce loyalty to locale of the area).

you're looking too much at the size of hamilton and not about how many people live near hamilton. there are more than two million people within a half hour of the city.

And they are all Leafs fans.

maybe but they can't all get leafs tickets since they sell out every game they play. i'm pretty sure that nobody in ottawa was an ottawa senators fan before 1990.

One of the greatest modern brawls in the NHL!

McCarty scored the game winner in OT also. I do believe that Colorado had a 2 goal lead going into 3rd period also. There is no rivalry in all of sports today as nasty as the Wings/Avs in the mid to late 90s. That was my personal greatest game ever as a fan.

you cant post that without posting this

announcer always cracks me up

I think this one was more about Roy wanting to regain some credibility. It was a year later than that original brawl. Vernon who is about 6 inches shorter than Roy really kind of embarrassed Roy. Av/Wings were must see tv back then though.

Wow Crosby is such a little bitch. He's trying to bait Ovechkin into a fight. How funny would it be if Ovechkin dropped the little coward?

I hated both the Wings and Aves (still do) but those were some intense fun games. I can't remember a game where there wasn't a bunch of fights. When they met in the playoffs it fairly relevant in all sports, not just hockey if I remember right.

Why are the Penguins on NBC again in two weeks? Penguins four times in five games seems really stupid.

to be fair, washington/pittsburgh is actually a pretty interesting matchup.

OV is unbelievable. Washington's first goal tonight was four seconds into a PP. Big wind up and then a perfect pass to Backstrom who had nothing but open net in front of him.

he also had a nice goal when jeff carter wisely decided to pass the puck to the best player in the nhl as he's wide open in the slot.

otherwise it was a nice win for my flyers last night, only the caps' 6th home loss in regulation this year. arron asham, of all people, had a highlight reel goal.

Wish Ovie would learn English faster so the NHL can market a skilled player.

ovie knows english pretty well. the nhl still doesn't market him because he's not north american.

eta: at least not marketed as the best player in the nhl.
