the kings put on a clinic on protecting a lead in the last 15 minutes of the 3rd this afternoon. i think they're finally learning how to play with a lead in the 3rd. they've blown enough of them this year so far, so that's good to see.

I'm a little surprised NBC is airing Boston-Rangers over Sid-Ovie. I think I'm going to record the latter while I watch the Hawks game this afternoon.

this caps/pens game is awesome. i hope they meet in the playoffs.

Crybaby and True Superstar mixed it up at all?

nope. both of them have goals though.

TONS of intensity from both teams, lots of scrums. very high pace to the game. just entertaining hockey.

Yeah, that was a great hockey game.

Sid with a sick move for the only shootout goal.

No funny stuff between Malkin/Ovie/Sid though.

Rangers/Canes on VERSUS tonight. Doesn't look like a very intriguing game unless you realize that if the Canes win, they pass New York AND Pittsburgh and become the 7th seed.

Can't wait to see Avery piss of Conboy.

Went to the Blues-Stars game last night. I guess it's why they are fighting for their lives in the playoff race, but I can't believe how inconsistent Dallas has been. They got blitzed in the first ten minutes.

And I wouldn't run to Youtube to find it or anything, but I think Janssen and Barch had about the longest fight I've ever seen. It wasn't that good of a fight, except it just kept going and going.

I still don't think the Blues have enough to sneak into the 8th spot, but watching that game gave me some hope.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but yesterday's paper had a graphic showing that they've had the highest number of fighting majors this season than in the past 5 seasons, and we're not even done yet. If last night's Columbus/Boston game is any indication of how the season has gone, I can see why.

That being said, here are the proposed fighting changes that are going to voted on in the off-season:

- Staged fighting with recieve an extra 10 minute misconduct. A example would be fighters dropping gloves off a face off without any previous altercation causing the fight

- Imposing the instigator rule when a fight occurs after a guy delivers a big hit to a player

Stupid... leave it the way it is. It's been this way for 100+ years. Taking out fighting is going to make the game more dangerous for a majority of the players. Get rid of staged fighting, leave real fighting in.

There are a couple of opinion pieces in the Tribune today about fighting, basically one pro-fighting and one "meh." It's really simple: the fans love it. So it comes down to whether Bettman wants to once again try his time-tested-and-failed theory that potential NHL fans are more important than us actual, current NHL fans.

I just don't think the system is broken, so why mess with it?

The portion of the Jackets/Bruins game I saw had some fights, but all were "legit" (the first was after two Columbus players checked a Bruin into the boards at the same time). I dont' see a problem with the fighting as long as there aren't players being sent onto the ice by coaches simply to hurt other players

I don't see a problem with it either. But IIRC, Canadian fans support less fighting in Hockey. I wonder if that's why it keeps coming up.

To me it's a fun part of the game, as long as it doesn't stop gameplay every 5 minutes. Which I don't think it does.

Really? I've never heard that. Montreal fans probably do, but I'd be surprised if the western CA fans did.

I thought I heard like 60% support less fighting. Maybe I heard it wrong.

Imposing the instigator rule when a fight occurs after a guy delivers a big hit to a player.

They do this now. Watch the hit at the beginning of this clip from last night:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4RsrJbVY6M

Sutherby got the instigator because there was no reason for him to jump McKee after a legal hit.

Yea I saw this last night... the player is just reacting to what looks like a headshot (a dirty hit)... they weren't watching the whole play develop like the refs. If it's a dirty hit, instigator usually isn't used.

Yeah it is amazing that they are this close with Johnson missing the whole season, and Kariya missing pretty much all of it. I am going to tomorrow night and sundays games so hopefully they can win. They are only 3 points out with a game in hand on the team in the 8 spot.

I had tickets for Saturday against Detroit but had to sell them because I'll be out of town. Sunday is the always-fun "free food game," as I'm sure you know.

If healthy, they are a playoff team next year.

Just checked the Box Score, there were only 2 fights?

Hawks had a 3 fight game the other day and a 4 fight game against the Blues earlier in the season. Is the Box Score wrong?

Another great home win for the Blues tonight vs. San Jose.

I don't know what it is about these guys, but with the exception of the Wings they play the top teams the hardest.

Just two points out of a playoff spot as of right now. Wow.
